311 DAY RECAP:
We hope everyone worldwide had a fantastic 3-11 Day! Those of you that joined us in New Orleans witnessed an epic event and will have memories for a lifetime! 14,000 fans from all 50 states and 13 countries rocked together and celebrated in unity during an amazing 5 hour show!THANK YOU to all the fans that made the voyage to New Orleans and made it such a special event. From the Fan Party at the Howlin' Wolf (where 311 fans from around the world gathered the night before the concert to meet eachother), to the 311 Fans Care Project (where 311 fans volunteered to help rebuild houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina), to the Pre-Show Gathering at the Bridge (with music by the Soul Rebels Brass Band) to the spectacular 311 Show (where 311 played 63 songs...with fans on their feet and cheering for 5 hours straight) to the Afterparty on Bourbon Street (which lasted well into the wee hours of the morning)...the positive vibes and unity of the 311 Community was truly amazing!! For three full days, the city of New Orleans was swarming with 311 fans proudly wearing their 311 shirts and chanting and singing in the streets, hotels, restaurants and bars at all hours of the day and night!
311 had a blast rockin' all 63 songs, as the energy they got back from the crowd was so positive and powerful. Thank you for helping blow the roof off the place!! The band played three 21 song sets, covering 311 classics, rarities and a first time cover - The Joker by Steve Miller Band. Some of the more rare tunes included The Continuous Life (first time played), Seal the Deal (first time played), Bomb the Town (last played 2/26/02), Today My Love (last played 4/8/02), Right Now (last played 3/14/04), Juan Bond (last played 3/11/04), Livin and Rockin (last played 12/16/05), and Strangers (last played 3/11/06). The band ended their show with the song "Paradise"....as this tremendous show truly was paradise for the band and their fans!
311 had a huge light show, along with state of the art lasers! In addition, they had versatube video screens, confetti cannons, streamer cannons, and cyro-jet co2 steam blasts! And Chad Sexon had a hydraulic drum riser that rasied 15 feet off the stage during the drum solo of Applied Science!!
During Intermission 1, New Orleans' famous Rebirth Brass Band took the stage; a 9 member funky jazz band, who were joined by 4 Lady Buck Jumpers and 2 Mardi Gras Indians who danced in elaborate costumes. That ensemble was truly a classic taste of New Orleans!
During Intermission 2, special Unity Tour announcements were made on the jumbo screens and over the PA system. The arena went crazy with excitement when they heard 311 and Snoop Dogg will hit the road together for an amazing tour this summer!!
THANKS to all of you, for the hundreds and hundreds of positive comments about 3-11 Day on the 311.com Bulletin Board and the band's MySpace page. Amazing stories, highlights and praises. Thanks for sharing with us your truly incredible testiments of love and support.
