Sometimes in life we are not exactly sure what we are supposed to do and then through a series of circumstances and divine intervention, God steps in and clearly puts us on the path we are supposed to take. That's exactly what has happened to me.
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia where I spent the first thirteen years of my life. Much of my time was devoted to music and singing solos at First Baptist Church in downtown Atlanta and at Greater Atlanta Christian School, the private school I attended. My teachers and friends provided a loving environment where I was motivated and encouraged to sing and that's where I fell in love with the stage and singing.
In the eighth grade my family moved to Texas and I began to pursue other interests in high school and college. However, singing still was my heart's desire, and in the Fall of 2006 I moved to Dallas to pursue a career as a jazz singer.
Initially, I performed in Dallas and Fort Worth with The Julie Bonk Trio, and am currently singing with an incredible group of musicians from the Dallas area. They are Darwin Martin, keyboard; Chris Clarke, bass; Erick Morgan, drums; Tommy Nash, guitar; and Shelly Carroll and Ron Jones, saxophone. Thanks guys for all the help you have given me. A special thanks to Darwin Martin for all he has done and continues to do.
I am so grateful for the LightCatcher Winery in Fort Worth for booking my first gig and continuing to ask me back. Thanks also to their patrons who have not only encouraged me but have also recommended me to other jazz venues in the Metroplex.
Thanks also to the friends I met this past summer in Belize while fly fishing with my Dad at Turneffe Atoll. Their joy was contagious and overflowed to me. They have taken my c.d. and are playing it in Belize City! I have included some pictures on my website from this trip.
I am thankful that God has given me an opportunity to sing and write songs, and am looking forward to 2008 and what it will bring!
