Disband-So to speak

About Me

Paul Kominos and Jeff Hollenbeck started jamming together in early 1993 in Binghamton, NY. With Dave Hoyt on bass they systematicaly started writing drinking and whatever else early 20's musicians do to semi coherantly pass the time. With a set worth of music under their belt they recruited the vocal stylings of Jimmyjohn McCabe from Yolk and geared up to start playing out. As all the music was written before names and lyrics had been put to them, it was not unusual to hear fans in the crowd yell "play 7", or "do 1". Under the band name of Gout (Very Thrash based including vocals though Jimmyjohns funk background would shine through on occassion as well) they played several shows around Binghamton, Ithaca, and Syracuse. Jimmyjohn left once Yolk hit a tour of colleges, and Scott Grahm of Brick was recruited. Dave Hoyt left the band when Paul and Jeff moved to Ithaca and Glen Harris of Apparition took over Bass duties, adding his slapping, funk influence to their still extremely heavy sound, and the band was transformed to White on Rice. Performing songs with titles like "Fishing in Your Underwear", "Baby Butt Stuff" and "Lint Trap", White on Rice entertained crowds in clubs and outdoor festivals throughout Central New York. After some changes on the vocals settling with Matt Kelly, and on Bass with Greg Hunt, the new lineup called for a new name, and with the odd mix of influences and backgrounds throughout, what better name than Gravy. Over the next couple of years they blasted they're way all around Central New York entertaining the masses with their odd mix of genres coming together in one heavy audio stew. Greg Hunt was replaced by Hodie of Elmira based Grooveyard. And Hodie was eventually replaced with Gary Hesslin who can be heard on the Gravy demo. Currently Paul Kominos can be seen and heard with 12oz. Muzzle, Matt Kelly with Armageddon Monks, and Hodie on the rare occassion of a grooveyard reunion. Jeff Hollenbeck and Gary Hesslin currently reside in the semi retired column. Rumors and speculation of a Gravy reunion are not totally far fetched but currently are on hold. Time will tell.
