Formed in 2006, Black Cherry are a five piece from Hackney.Megane Quashie – Vocals/Korg, Gui Fraisse – Drums, Rob Moore – Guitar, Sam Widdows – Keys/Synth/BV, James Newport – Bass/BV
With the singular stage presence of front woman Meg, the band weave sparkling melodies with aggressive noise into a formidable musical force. Having secured management and signing with one of the UK’s top booking agencies in just 18 short months the band has continues to grow and surprise audiences all over the country and in Europe.
2007 has been an eventful year for Black Cherry. They began by supporting the Wombats on six of their UK tour dates, including the bands’ Liverpool Academy homecoming. Next up a gig in Paris at La Fleche D’Or, one of only a handful of live venues supporting unsigned music in the city. A great reception here guaranteed a return trip, which the band made in August, this time playing two dates back to back. With a host of crowd pleasing tunes and a great stage presence they straddle the rock/dance divide perfectly.
Receiving great reviews, the band recently featured on an itunes podcast and got a mention on from Steve Lamacq on Radio One. About to enter the studio with a top producer to record two singles for their first release in early 2008.
Already receiving booking for festivals in 2008, Black Cherry are definitely a band to look out for.
