About Me

Lup, Marko Radu's 3rd solo project, began in October of 2007. This is a concept album project inspired by a dynamic pick of events from ancient history. The crux? The ungovernable in compelling times. The focus of instrumentation is on articulating the distinctive - distinguishable - qualities and characteristics of the people and events portrayed. Marko captures the idiosyncrasies of his subjects by punctuating the scores with associated sounds and triggers: in other words, the variety of instruments featured serve as lucid links. Compositions are underscored with signature sounds from rites and rituals, obscure literature and folklore: these lesser known, wholly unique earmarks embellish orchestration and (hopefully) give rise to some very special music.

The very first concept album will focus on a primordial tale from Dacia. Marko will slowly unravel the tale as each movement – more accurately, segment of a movement – is added. To hear all four movements in their entirety you will have to buy the album!

Thank you for your interest. I hope you dig the concepts and find pleasure in sampling the chronicles.

Influences:

Simply the ability to feel. The source, type of emotion and result can vary, but the formula is fixed - it's the same process every time: experience + feeling = memory. The source could be a place, a thing, a person, an animal, and it could be metaphysical – real or imagined. Either way, the source is the MUSE.

Unintentionally, instinct, ego, superego, and upbringing steps in and responds to this muse. Now you relate by identifying with the familiar things: I've seen, seen something similar to, or never seen this before; and I've felt, partially felt or never felt this before. The source instigates an emotional response that, in turn, is stored as an experience – an experience that is internalised and often shared as artistic expression. This is the nature of inspiration and influence.

As a result, I find it very difficult to accurately list my influences.I have noticed that I tend to gravitate towards, and attract, certain types of muses – perhaps fatedly. My muses tend to be forsaken and fallible, and, again, perhaps fated to be, faithful in faithless circumstances. And, what is more, regardless of the age of the physical source, the metaphysical source is always ancient. I guess what I'm really saying is that "real" people, most of the time, tend not to influence me all that much. I think the imperfections of humanity are responsible for this. Sure, I could post a list of people I admire – musicians I like to listen to – but, really, the people on that list would have very little to do with the music I compose.
