My Interests

Film. Old and new. Music. Pretty wide ranging, though Jazz, the Grateful Dead and, believe it or not for a straight guy, Judy Garland hold a special place. I play guitar and sing, write music and love to improv. Animals. All kinds, but particularly my dog, Gustavo, who reminds me on a daily basis that life is full of truly great things. Food. Again, all kinds. Never tasted a food I didn't like. That's true. Good dinner and good conversation, be it one on one or in a group, is about as perfect an evening as there is. Travel. Anywhere, anytime. Lived in Sweden, traveled throughout various other fantastic places in Europe. Love roughing it with a backpack and staying on couches or in hostels, as much as pampering myself in a four star hotel. Combine all of the above elements into one package with the right person (or people) and I might just choose to die right then and there.

I'd like to meet:

Someone who's constantly growing (emotionally, not physically) and truly understands the "pursuit" portion of the phrase "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". Other than that... Surprise me.Can You See Jesus? DOGBUTTJESUSROADSIDE INTERLUDE

Music:

Movies:

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. BLACK NARCISSUS. SHANGHAI EXPRESS. DOCTOR ZHIVAGO. THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR. OLIVER TWIST. WEST SIDE STORY. I AM CUBA. THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY. MINNIE AND MOSKOWITZ. THE MISSION. BLUE. DAS BOOT. THE BIG PARADE. NOTORIOUS. The list goes on...

Television:

Canceled my Directv and now only use rabbit ears in the bedroom. That's how I watch me that thar CONAN O'BRIEN fella from time to time. That said, I have a 65" wide screen, high def TV in my living room with 7.1 channels of discreet digital surround sound. But that part of my self-inflicted geekdom is reserved mostly for movies and not so much TV. Okay, that's not completely true anymore. I've discovered TV on DVD and now watch entire series like they were very long movies. Most recently finished first 2 seasons of BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA (who knew it would be so good?), and am completing season 1 of ROME. Am moving onto THE WIRE next. Also watch THE SOPRANOS and, my guilty pleasure, PRISON BREAK (both of which I bittorrent).

Books:

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST may be my favorite (despite being an athiest Jew) and THE GRAPES OR WRATH. Also loved BELOVED and, continuing with the geek theme, THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy (which I've read several times --all before they decided to turn them into live-action films--which I also liked). Recently finished Brownlow's biography of David Lean and am currently reading CASSAVETTES ON CASSAVETTES. Will be moving on to Murakami's KAFKA ON THE SHORE next.

Heroes:

Anyone who can help get George Bush out of office. And Jerry Garcia for making me smile so damn much.
