Until 2 years ago you had probably never even heard the name Shayne Ward mentioned before, now Shayne is making it big as one of the most successful reality TV stars so far. Shayne burst on to our screens on The X Factor, from then Shayne was always destined for big things. His rendition of Elton John's 'Sacrifice' blew the judges away and they instantly knew they had a star in the making. Shayne had previously slipped through the net before, appearing on Popstars: The Rivals on which he was unsuccessful. But what was Popstars loss was definetely The X Factor's gain. Shayne continued to shine throughout the audition stages and was of the lucky 8 who was chosen to go to Louis Walsh's home in Ireland, where he competed for a chance in the final 4 and ultimately the opportunity to sing live to millions of people.
Shayne made it through to the final 4 in the under 25's catergory. Sporting slightly longer hair and a different sound, Shayne sang Richard Marx 'Right Here Waiting' on the first of what was to be many live shows for Shayne. The crowd instantly took to Shayne, and for Shayne this was just the beginning. Week by week Shayne continued to push himself and his range singing a whole collection of songs which varied from Justin Timberlake to Ronan Keating and even a bit of The Darkness for good measure. Eventually Shayne was whittled down to the final three, where he competed for a chance to win a million pound recording contract. Shayne was up against one of Simon's groups (Journey South) and one of Sharon's artists (Andy Abrahams). Journey South were the first to be voted out, which left Shayne fighting for the crown against Andy.
After a note perfect performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and the exclusive performance of what was to be the winners single 'That's My Goal', Shayne was declared the winner of The X Factor 2005, with only 1.2% difference in the voting. That's My Goal went on to become the 3rd fastest selling single ever after Elton John and Will Young, and shifted over 742,180 in the first five days of sale going on to make it Christmas number one. It was the second biggest selling single of 2005 in the UK, and as of 2006, was the 69th biggest selling single in the UK. To date, it has sold 1.3 million copies in the UK.
From that moment on Shayne's success has continued to grow and grow. His 2nd single, No Promises, went on to chart at number 2 and he also had a top 10 hit with his 3rd single Stand By Me. Shortly after Shayne's 3rd single was released, Shayne was reportedly found to have had nodules on his throat, which meant major surgery. It was touch and go for Shayne with only a 50/50 chance of Shayne's singing voice coming back fully, but it was a risky operation that Shayne had to have. Luckily the operation was a success and Shayne made a comeback last year with a new umptempo sound and a sexier, young look. Shayne's double A-side single, If That's Ok With You and No U Hang Up, charted at number 2, which is the same number as what Shayne's 2nd album debuted at. Not bad for someone from reality stardom eh?!?
