Ambient and Textural Guitar

About Me

My bio: I live in Australia, and have been playing guitar for about 15 years. I like to play a lot of styles, but mainly focus on ambient and textural guitar these days. My albums, AMbIENT and Three Crows & The Moon, are available for sale....just contact me for details. Here's a quick rundown of the songs I've put up here:White Noise: A menagerie of wistful atmospheric noises and sound-effects (all made by guitar) over an appegio backing. This short song has heaps of tracks and took forever to record and mix! It's the most emotional thing I think I have recorded.Let It Breathe: A longish and loungeish ambient soundscape made entirely with guitar....serve chilled with headphones.A Crystal Fascination I: A ethereal and dreamy piece combining ambient textures with clean 'real' guitar. I'm quite proud of this one.Nightmare: My ambient/textural tribute to the chordal work of Allan Holdsworth.Hope you enjoy it.

Band Members: I make all my ambient soundscapes with guitar only; no keyboards, synths, or sequencers were used.I use a American Deluxe Strat with Kinman pickups, a ES335 with Seymour Duncans, and also a Maton EGB808 acoustic from time to time.Recording-wise, everything is recorded direct to the computer, via some combination of a POD XT, a Digi-Tech RP-12, a Boss RC-20 Loop Station, a Zoom G2, WD7 wah and a TS9 OD. I also use some freeware .vst plugins for post-recording tweaks to the recorded sound.
Influences: Some of my favorite musicians are Allan Holdsworth, Mike Keneally, Bill Frisell, Scott Henderson, Hermeto Pascoal, Steely Dan, Nguyen Le, Mike Keneally, Ron Thal, John Scofield, Robert Fripp, Jimmy Herring, Bela Bartok, Mike Keneally, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Winter, Roy Buchanon, Shawn Lane, Anton Webern, Eivind Aarset, Nils Petter Molvaer, Mike Keneally, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Sun Ra, Stars Of The Lid, Marconi Union, Ozric Tentacles, Gentle Giant, Frank Zappa, Mike Keneally .... and on a pedestal....J S Bach.
Sounds Like: ...ambient soundscapes for the most part.Until recently, I mainly played blues, jazz, fusion, rock, jazz-funk, and some more 80's heavy type stuff. These days, I'm finding myself doing a lot more experimental ambient/textural spooky film-score type music....it's a huge area to get into, and really gives you the opportunity to get creative. I'd like to sound something like Marconi Union or Stars of the Lid...
