Michael Berkowitz is a singer/songwriter from Reston, VA (by way of Columbia, MD and Oberlin, OH). After releasing his first, home-made EP, "aurora borealis" in the fall of 2006 and graduating from Oberlin College with degrees in Latin and Ancient Greek in the spring of 2007, he moved to Northern Virginia, where he has been quickly becoming a recognized part of the local up-and-coming crowd. He is in the process of recording a full-length CD, "a song for every station," to be released, tentatively, in November of 2007.
Michael’s songs feature intricate and compelling lyrics, simultaneously highly literate and emotionally charged, reminiscent of Richard Shindell, Ellis Paul, and We’re About 9. He accompanies his songs with understated skill and creativity, drawing on a range of tunings and styles.
Michael has played extensively in Maryland, Virginia and Ohio, including at the Westside Cafe, Moore Music in the House, the Cat in the Cream Coffeehouse, College Perk, and the Oberlin Folk Festival. He has shared these stages with artists such as David Morreale, the Jason Spooner Trio, ilyAIMY,and We’re About 9.
