About Me

Art freaks, steak frites, highballs, low morals, sex, drugs and rock & roll, anyone?
I play Scrabble alone {Me v. Myself}, and I don't cheat. I will hijack that jukebox any minute now. I drive fast... and I am a good driver. I have 12 years of piano lessons under my belt. I'm a cover lover, a keeper & a sucker for diction. I'm curious about all kinds of things. I will kick your ass on the foosball table... please get over it already. Thoughtful gestures are underrated. I can be a bit obsessive-compulsive on occasion {in a good way...?} I'm an insatiable traveler. Sure, I'm up for it... why not? I hate mushrooms, intolerance & unnecessary braking on the freeway. I'm annoyingly observant. The dirtier the joke, the better. It's the littlest things that get my attention. I'll steal the duvet, but I won't hog the bed.
If you lost your wish, can I help you find it?
Mates of the State of California.
But I totally still support PETA....

Gettin' dirrrty at Jessi's wedding.

I'd like to meet:

My parents as children. Axl {circa 1987}. People who don't take me for granted. Fantastic musicians/lovers-of-musicians. Elvis Costello. Old friends. Dramatic story-tellers. Cunning linguists. Beethoven. Clive Owen. Greg Dulli. People who aren't married to their cell phones. Those who check their judgments & pretentions at the door. Spontaneous travelers. Music:

" I love the relationship that anyone has with music...
because there’s something in us that is beyond the reach of words,
something that eludes & defies our best attempts to spit it out.
It's the best part of us, probably... the richest & strangest part. "

Books:

Law school really threw my reading habits under the bus, and I'm just now getting started on the 50 or so books I simply didn't have the will to read after Epstein, Conviser & the like sucked it out of me. ..
Ham On Rye :: Wicked :: Sick Puppy :: Confederacy of Dunces :: On the Road :: Valley of the Dolls :: The Sun Also Rises :: High Fidelity :: Septuagenarian Stew :: Me Talk Pretty One Day {and all Sedaris stuff} :: Eats Shoots & Leaves :: The Iliad :: For Whom the Bell Tolls :: Night Train :: One Hundred Years of Solitude :: The Great Gatsby :: The Shining :: Are You There, Darling? :: Le Petit Prince :: White Noise :: The Hottest State {OK, OK, this is only b/c Ethan Hawke autographed it...} :: any Bill Bryson book :: those little "bathroom readers" that are full of trivial pursuits
Currently on my nightstand:
Middlesex :: Prague :: Delano :: The Trick of It :: Fried Calamari :: Notes of a Dirty Old Man :: a crossword puzzle book & pencil, a turquoise lamp with a feather-trimmed lampshade, Dr Pepper-flavored chapstick and an empty wine glass {stained red from the remaining sip of a delicious pinot noir that was shared with lovely company, way back in December...}

The trick of it.
