About Me

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A FAN / TRIBUTE PAGE, NOT THE OFFICIAL PAGE OF INEZ VAN LAMSWEERDE & VINOODH MATADIN!The creative team Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin have a seemingly endless capacity to explore new visual territories. In the early 1990s they were among the first practitioners to show the possibilities of digital-imaging technology as a creative and meaningful medium. They developed a signature style of visual seduction paired with provocative narratives, which infused new ideas into fashion photography. Since the early 1990s, they have created ground-breaking editorials for American, French, and Italian Vogue, V, Visionaire, The New York Times Magazine, and W. Their innovative approach is also seen in campaigns for Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Yohji Yamamoto, Helmut Lang, Dior, Miu Miu, and Estée Lauder. In tandem with their fashion work, van Lamsweerde and Matadin create photography that has been well received in the contemporary art world. They are represented by the Matthew Marks Gallery where they have exhibited The New People, Part Two: Life on Earth (2005), The New People, Part One: Paradise (2003/4), ME (1999) and The Widow (1997). Their work has also been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally including the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Hayward Gallery, London, and the Guggenheim Museum, New York. ..

Books:

PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING Text by Bruce Sterling.Pretty Much Everything (Vol. I) is the first of two anthologies that will compile Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin's collaborative photography of the past 20 years. Each book will eventually contain over 300 examples of the couple's art, fashion and portraiture, freed from their original contexts in magazine features, ads or exhibitions. Images have been paired based not on chronological order but on the relationships between their subjects: "It is a reflection of how all our photographs have been living together in our heads for the past 20 years." This first volume includes a collaboration with graphic design duo Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag of M/M Paris, with whom van Lamsweerde and Matadin have been working for the past decade. M/M Paris uses the book's midsection to highlight and illustrate van Lamsweerde and Matadin's most recent exhibition at the Matthew Marks Gallery, The Now People Part 2: Life on Earth. And in place of an introduction, Volume I begins with a short story from the acclaimed science fiction writer Bruce Sterling, who used van Lamsweerde and Matadin as inspiration: "Marcel printed our newsletter, made of flammable ink on explosive flashpaper. Marcel printed only the hottest source material: spycam stills. Tapped phone calls. Insider trading tips. All the stolen specs for next season's couture. Marcel's publications literally burnt the skin off the fingers of his readers. Forced to print in bulk to meet ever-growing prurient demands, Marcel had accidentally blown both his hands off. Thanks to Sighmaster, Marcel now wore his late mother's hands."PUBLISHED BY: Edition 7L
