Alrighty - I'm Jason Jenkins. I've graduated from the American International School of Budapest. I lived in Budapest for four years and I can safely say it's one of the best cities in the entire world. I've lived in San Diego (8 years), Boston (1 year), Berlin (4 years), Frankfurt (1 1/2 years), and Budapest (3 years). Living in Europe for so long has been a great experience - I've learned to speak fluent German and some French, not to mention the opportunities I've been able to experience if I had never come to Europe. I can owe my personality to the fact that I've been living in Europe for so long. Wouldn't give the past 10 years up for anything. I've moved to Boston for university last August as well - new surroundings, university, and a new opportunity.
Boston is a great city. It's small, it's lively, and it has more to offer than most American cities. Even though I'm living in a shitty dorm, the location is good and university is treating me well. Since I've been in Boston, I've been skating probably more than I ever have and it's fucking great. Props to all the guys that helped me get situated in the scene so quickly - you know who you are.
I played a lot of sports in my freetime on school teams. I played basketball, soccer, and softball on varsity teams. I played baseball on a 2nd division Hungarian team - sure the level wasn't on American par, but who gives a fuck? I have fun playing baseball and probably will for the rest of my life - I've been playing since I was 1 1/2 years old, believe it or not. Quite awhile to be playing a sport that most consider boring.
My true love, though, is skateboarding. I can't even deal with shit without skateboarding. Skateboarding is my outlet for everything. Everything else becomes secondary as soon as I step foot on my board - school, stress, and other shit.. I get through it all by resorting to my skateboard. I've been skateboarding for about 8 years and filming skateboarding for about 3 years. I love filming and editing skateboard clips and movies - being able to capture all the good times you have with friends is great. I film with a VX1000, Century Optics Mark 1, Bescor 50/100 watt light, and some other accessories. I JUST finished my second full-length skate video, named "From The Ground Up," featuring Havas Adam, Ubi, Karkossiak Zsolt, Sarkany Kristof, Johan Pejryd, Sean Jenkins, and Matyas Ricsi. The past two years have been great making the film, but I don't recommend making an independent video. It'll burn a hole in your pocket. Ask me - I'm in the red 300 Euros right now.
I don't only film skateboarding though, I've worked on some other projects on the side, including a documentary about Budapest - showing the attractions and explaining some history about them. It turned out really nice, just ask if you want to see it. I've worked at a few film studios in Budapest over the past few summers, so I'm happy to be able to know what the film industry is really like. I love it and that's where I want to head in life.
Last but not least, I'm not gonna act like I don't, I love partying. I have a great time with friends going to bars and clubs - it's a great way to have fun with friends and meet new people, not to mention it's so much easier to meet new people when you're drunk. Ask anyone, I enjoy my drinks and if you see me out on any given night, I'm probably drunk or on my way there :)
Penguins are my favorite animal. I'd die without my video camera. I enjoy being an asshole to people, but it's usually just a joke. I love Vodka Red Bulls. I love travelling and do it all the time. I love women, but I also hate them. Sweden is my favorite country. I speak German, some French, and a tiny bit of Hungarian. Skateboarding dominates my life. I hail from San Diego, California. I drive an ten year-old Audi A6 that I know close to nothing about. I'm a neat freak when it comes to my room, but when it comes to my schoolwork, I'm terribly unorganized. I hate onions. That's me in a nutshell. Take it or leave it :)
I'm attending Boston University to study film production, so if you're from the area or even better, going to be at BU, hit me up!
Here is my interview on Skateperception.com to get to know who I am better
