I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm a native California transplanted in the South. That means I have a liberal mind, love the sun, can make a good mole and salsa verde, will throw up my "W" when Dre and Tupac come on at the club...but it also means I love the leaves changing in the fall, enjoy a good Southern breakfast of biscuits, gravy, and grits, listen to country music and say "Ya'all". My job is very important to me, and some may call me a workaholic, but I feel it is my calling and I am grateful for having found something I am passionate about and that gives me a sense of joy and satisfaction every day I am at work. Unfortunately, my job has a downside. Cystic fibrosis is still considered a "terminal illness". While I do know people with CF in their 40's, 50's, and 60's, I also seen it take precious young lives. I am in charge of several fundraising events this year for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, including three GREAT STRIDES walks. I know that many of you support other causes or have given to me and my causes in the past, but I am asking that you consider a donation in memory of Michael Jones and in honor of 30,000 people still struggling with this disease. You can make a donation by simply clicking the link below or typing http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/KirstenBlack4673 into your web address bar. If you are unable to make a donation, please consider volunteering with a CF Foundation event in your area. There are plenty of ways that you can be of service, and it would mean a great deal to me. Thank you for your friendship and your support! These are some of my favorite things... Get Your Own! | View Slideshow I am on this site to stay in touch with current friends and reunite with some old ones. I am not here to hook up or to try to set the record for the most "myspace" friends. I use it for work (yes, really I do) and to take an occasional break during a hectic day. I actually know or have talked to everyone on my page (save a few musicians/artists that I really would LOVE to meet), so do not send me a friend request without making conversation with me...and if you don't seem like someone I'd be friends with offline, you won't be on MySpace either. I am not against meeting new people, but if I wouldn't hang out with you in real life, I wouldn't add you to my friends list! I love to take pictures - here are some of my favorites. Send me a message and tell me which ones are your favorites! ..(I am donating some to our various auctions at the CF Foundation, so I am taking a poll).. They are also available for sale if you see something you'd like to hang on your walls. :-)

My Interests

..Charity work, my dog and two cats, hanging out with friends, a nice glass of wine or a good beer, getting creative in the kitchen, watching Kentucky basketball, taking pictures of anything beautiful that catches my eye, being outdoors.

I'd like to meet:

Who I'd Like to Meet: Sojourner Truth, Amelia Earhart, Martin Luther King, Aaron McGruder, Jesus, the folks who were on trial for witchcraft in Salem...and probably many more I can't think of at the moment. Who I'm NOT Trying to Meet: Every new band, comedian, or person trying to enter the "most friends on MySpace contest" who hits me up with a message or a friend request!

Music:

..I listen to everything from Old School Hip Hop to Country, Folk music to the 80's, Broadway musicals to Punk. I will pretty much anything playing on VH1's top countdown. In rotation currently: Michael Tolcher, Sugarland, Colbie Caillat, Rascal Flatts, Jon Goode (check him out on my top friends list!), Green Day, A Tribe Called Quest, my "Country Love Songs" and my "80's Classics" playlists.

Movies:

..The Wizard of Oz, For Love of the Game, When a Man Loves a Woman, American History X, The Imitation of Life, Office Space, Animal House, Old School, anything Disney, Grease, psychological thrillers, a good chick flick, and anything that IS NOT a crappy remake of a classic movie or a pop icon television show! What is with the film industry these days...originality people - you are supposed to be in the CREATIVE arts!!! I am counting on folks like Tom Williams (the only Tom on my friends list !) and Dave Reda to keep making quality films with a fresh perspective! :-)

Television:

..Law and Order, CSI, Cold Case, Missing, Medium, ER, Crossing Jordan, The Boondocks, VH1 Specials, Food Network Challenges (hopefully someday you'll see me building a better burger someday!) reruns of Sex in the City and Friends, college basketball and CNN. And you can't front - everyone still loves the reruns on Nick at Nite and TV Land!

Books:

..I am currently passing the time by rotating between romantic comedies (I call them "chick flick books") and suspense/mysteries (which somehow seem to contain a little gratuitous romance). I had wanted to read DaVinci Code before the movie came out - but I still haven't gotten to it. It seems like I'm the only "intellectual" I know who has not read a Harry Potter book! My girls and I just started a book club, and the first read is "The Red Tent". I like crime dramas, history books, and I keep up with the business worled reading management and performance improvement books. I still love my childhood favorites - Nancy Drew series, Judy Blume, Dr. Seuss, and Shel Silverstein - except now I get to read them to or have them read to me by my nieces and nephew. I also subscribe to my daily dose of Dilbert and The Boondocks via email - it's always good to start your day with a good laugh at corporate politics and sociopolitical commentary!

Heroes:

..The kids and families I work for at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, my little brother, my advisor in college, Sojourner Truth, Amelia Earhart.
