Cortney Hicks

Born and raised in Detroit, music has always been a major influence in my life. As a young child, me, my mom Charlotte, and aunt Pauline, would get together just about every Saturday night, stack the albums and 45's on the Sylvania player, pour the Red Rose wine and let the music play well into the wee hours of the morning. Between sneakin a sip and dancing in circles to the music, I developed a deep, passionate love for music and the artists. This influence was so strong that it inspired me to want to be a famous singer too! Over the years my voice instructers included Opera singers and the late gospel music legend, Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark. Upon my arrival at MSU, I took an internship at a local radio station (WQHH) that soon led to full-time, on-air employment. My love for music complimented my new found passion for radio as I quickly came to the realization that being a radio personality was something I could do for a lifetime. From my perspective, the entertainment industry is just as fascinanting, crazy and interesting. Through the years I've never given up on singing as I'm still the official wedding and funeral singer in the family! Lol. In closing, I have to give a big Detroit "what up doe" to my lil brother Jay Hicks who serves as Assistant Program Director/Music Director and night personality (my former shift) at WQHH.
