For 18-year old rapper J.Wright, being ‘F.R.E.S.H(Forever Repecting Everything Stylish and Hood)’ is a lifestyle, “I try to present a F.R.E.S.H image from the way I dress, to the way I think, to the type of fun I have, to the way I rap.†Being F.R.E.S.H also means learning from early mistakes and choosing to be educated and do the right thing with life and music, rather then let his past dictate the future. “I want to influence young people and show that what works for some people doesn’t work for everyone. You have to find a lifestyle that works for you.â€
Already featured as an upcoming artist in CTP Magazine, J.Wright has had three songs (Fallen Angel ft. Chris Brown, Fresh 2 Def,and now Ringtone) from his new album “This Must Be Wright†played on local and national radio stations with good radio response. On his latest album, “This Must Be Wright†(available on iTunes soon),the lyrics were inspired by the truth of life and jotted onto his Sidekick were matched to beats that bang in the club or the car, and catchy hooks that you just can't forget. In addition to live performances, J.Wright has recorded with Major artists like Chris Brown, Soulja Boy, and Lil Corey. He has also worked with up and coming artist like Cash Camp, Young Envy, Lil A(Teen Of Crunk), JBar(Soulja Boys S.O.D. Money Gang) and Lil Nico(Crank Dat Megaman).
Born in Davenport, Iowa, J.Wright was raised by his Mother after the death of his Father in 1997, finding solace in the beats of a LL Cool J tape he found. At 15, he discovered Kanye West and started filling notebooks with his own rhymes, but his dreams were soon sidelined when his best friend died in a car crash and J.Wright broke down trying to figure out how he was now going to take care of his god daughter. He rediscovered music in the Quad City independent rap scene, where his older brother taught him how to count bars, eningeer a pro studio, and make beats better than the local producers. Costs started adding up, and desperate to pursue his dream, J.Wright turned to illegal activities and his charm with the ladies to make the cash he needed to buy equipment and start producing his own music.
While working his second indie album, “This Must Be Wright†he engineered it himself,
J.Wright caught a major break when his friend Q(S.O.D Money Gang/Q Productions) booked
him for 10 shows on the UCP tour. J.Wright took that chance to promote himself
so every show he passed out flyers with his myspace on it and promo cds,
when the tour was over he came up with a game plan for his music career.
The record is due to be released March 25th 2008,which features stars like Chris Brown, Soulja Boy
and Lil Corey. J.Wright is ready for whatever life has in store
as he unleashes his unique hip hop lifestyle on the
masses. He is now getting compared to the new age LL Cool and getting alot of attentiion for labels
since his myspace page has over 2 million page views and song plays with over 150,000 thousand friends.
J.Wright says be on the look out for his album and promises to put the Midwest on the map and let
everyone know there is Hip Hop in Iowa!
