Buried at PhotoCasket.comMy name is Aixinjueluo Xuan-ye (Reign-title, Kangxi), the second Emperor of the Qing dynasty, ruled during the years 1661-1722, longest reign on the throne in China's history, 61 years. I am the third son of Fu-lin(Reign-title,Shunzhi). My mother, Empress Xiao-k'ang (1640-1663), a consort of My great father, was a daughter of Deng Kuo-kang. In 1661 on February 17, twelve days after my father's death, I was proclaimed Emperor of China. The rule of me was for the most part tolerant and conciliatory. In comparison with the emperors of the late Ming period I was frugal, practical, and conscientious in the discharge of my responsibilities. During my reign the empire increased in wealth and most of the time enjoyed peace and prosperity. In the course of my five tours to South China (in the years 1684, 1689, 1699, 1703, and 1707) I made painstaking efforts to inspect conservancy projects and so spurred the officials in charge to be more efficient and conscientious. I frequently singled out those who were reported as incorrupt for promotion .Desirous of lessening the opposition of recalcitrant Chinese scholars to the new regime, I solicited their help in the compilation of Ming-shi . In order to obtain capable scholars for this project I summoned many to complete in a special examination. I selected learned men and good calligraphers to be my personal secretaries, their office being known as the Imperial Study. Many famous works on literature and art were compiled under my order.During my reign, the society accumulated huge wealth and most of the time enjoyed peace and prosperity. In Chinese history, the good ruling from Emperor Kangxi's reign to Emperor Qianlong's reign was called "Kang Qian Sheng Shi", with prosperity lasting more than 100 years, and this was the last most prosperous period in ancient China.
