A tribute to the life of, "Van Trevor".

About Me

COUNTRYCLASSICS.COM.... In the “I wonder what ever happened to file” We wonder what ever happened to a young singer by the name of Van Trevor?Van, according to some 1966 publicity was born in Maine we don’t know the city but we do know he was well on his way during those 60’s years, and in those days he recorded for “Band Box” records out of Denver and was managed by the late Dick Heard.Van had appeared on Dick Clark’s Bandstand Show, the Joey Reynolds show out of Buffalo and many more TV shows during those years, he was also getting a lot of publicity in many Country magazines and news papers around the country. The last 45 we received from him was called “Born To Be In Love With You” b/w “It’s So Good To Be Loved” one he co/wrote with Dick Heard. If the publicity was right on Van back then he still should be a young man of about 62. ............................................................ .............................................. Behind the hits:Fred Clemens..................November proved to be a personal triumph for me in the collector category. Back in 1996 I'd learned for the first time that Bob Shannon had recorded a song in 1970 during his Don Bombard days at WOLF in Syracuse, N.Y. It was called "Satisfaction Is Guaranteed" as by Don Bombard and Headstone II. He played it once as a "Lost Hit" on his CBS-FM show and I managed to tape most of it. I met Bob soon afterwards, when he informed me that it was issued on the Eceip label, and was the flip of a thing called "Speed" by the Ron Wray Light Show. Determined and self-challenged as I was, I told Bob I could find a copy of his record within a year. Well a year passed and...nothing! I'd come up with a couple of leads at record conventions, yet still nothing. Keep in mind that this was before my Internet association. When my Internet days came to be in late 1998, I found I was having no further luck with it. Everyone I asked never heard of it. But then, they weren't from Syracuse, where it made the Top 10. Then, in October of 2001, Bob filled me in on more backound of his record. It turns out that the song was originally recorded by Van Trevor in 1964. Not only that, Don's record was originally on the Piece label and was changed due to sexual implications (Eceip is simply Piece spelled backwards). Now the hunt was on for more records! I managed to find the Trevor version within a few months. First I found the Canadian-American issue, and then the Corsican original, which is the release Bob remembered. But still no Don Bombard record!..................................................... ............................................................ ..................Friday, November 9, 2007 New York Times Archives... ''Connecticut was a real melting pot'' for rock, Mr. Bezanker said. ''There was a lot of activity in Boston and New York, and Connecticut, being midway, has always been a showcase and an influence.'' Besides the nationally known artists, like Mr. Pitney and the Carpenters, Mr. Bezanker said his book will include those who achieved some local fame in Connecticut. Among his favorites are the Downbeats, a rhythm-and-blues group from Hartford that performed from 1957 to 1971; Bill Flagg, a rockabilly artist from Granby, and a group called the Saturday Knights, ''who released three instrumentals and several rock-and-roll records with a vocalist named Van Trevor from 1961 through 1966,'' he said. Although he has spent years compiling information, Mr. Bezanker said he is still looking for names of local artists to add to his list........................................................ ............................................................ ............. (Eddie Rabbitt - Dick Heard - Van Trevor- Performed by Charlie Rich)I wake up in the morning and I watch you sleeping there I whisper that I love you and gently touch your hand Your eyes begin to open and you realize it's me Then you get that cold look in your eyes and it makes me wanta cry It makes me wanta cry.You used to be my woman and now you act so strange Eveyrthing I gave you but your love for me has changed You know it just ain't natural but you don't want your man I don't understand you won't even try and it makes wanta cry Woman, it makes me wanta cry. This room is cold and silent like your forbidding heart My hand can almost touch you yet we're so far apart But if that's how I must love you then I'll stay here by your side Dreaming of the love the love you deniend but it makes me wanta cry Baby, it makes me wanta cry, it makes me wanta cry... ....Welcome to Van Trevor's Official Myspace page. Van's Myspace, is operated entirely by his family. We are here to bring to you the love that Van has brought to us, his fans, and the music industry...Robert Frances Boulanger was born November 12, 1940 in Lewiston, Maine to his parent's Joseph and Lottie. "Robert" to many, and Bobby to close friends and family, moved with his parents and siblings to New Britain, Connecticut. His sister, "Sharon", was able to reminisce with me about some of Van Trevors younger years. She had told me how she could very clearly remember how her and her 16 year old brother would walk down Main Street for music lesson's at the "Del Mar School of Music". Bobby attended music classes for about five months until he was able to read and play music on his own. He developed a strong passion for his talent and began songwritting and entertaining at a phoenominal pace! Bobby actually sang his first song on the radio at the age of seven... Bobby later acquired his name, "Van Trevor" ,From the love he had for his chosen means of transportation, and spelling "Robert" backwards. (Which was very common with musicians in the 60's) By the time Van Trevor was 19 years old,he already had several classics under his belt, and a strong local venue. One of Van's first hit's was "I Want To Cry", which was produced by Bob Crewe. Van also did lots of work with other various artist's such as, The Saturday Knights, Eddie Rabbit, Dick Heard, Johnny Dollar, Rick Anderson, Penny Star, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Freddy Cannon, Wayne Newton, New Christy Minstrells, Al Martino, Charlie Rich, Connie Francis, The Kokomos, -only to name a few. But not to mention, a private meeting with President Jimmy Carter, Appearances on American Bandstand, Joey Reynolds and countless articles published in newspapers and magazines worldwide. Van Trevor lived his life to the fullest 65 years. He had recovered from lung cancer, wrote childrens books, and helped the musical patriots form what we all call today, "Rock and Roll" and "Country Western" music! This is a tribute to the life of Van Trevor.Do you remember Van Trevor?
