Schadenfreude!

About Me

Graphic designer, doing marketing for a biotech company in south Austin. Always looking for freelance work, hint hint. Art degree from UT. Late bloomer--I was a nerd in high school. Straight A's, National Merit Scholar. So wildly unpopular that I had to ASK a friend to be my prom date. How sad is that? Been in Austin since 88, except for a brief stint in San Jose in 97-98. Nice town but too f-ing expensive for me. I suppose I'm a Texas girl (been here most of my life) but I don't like country music and don't have big hair. But that went out in the 80's, right? I think Austin is great, and anyone who lives here and disagrees can get the f*ck out. We need your parking space.

My Interests

Blogging! Can't seem to stop. Working out, going to the lake, going downtown, reading, hanging out with my 2 wiener dogs, making stained glass windows, freelance graphic design

I'd like to meet:

Open minded people, who don't judge a book by its cover. A little depth doesn't hurt, either. Soulless folks need not apply.

Music:

I'm all over the map. I love techno and and ADORE 80's music. Can't get enough of it. Favs: Yaz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Bronski Beat, INXS, Duran Duran. I listen to internet radio at work (iTunes) and love Radio Nigel and Club 80's with DJ Lex. They play a bunch of 12 inch remixes that are awesome. But I also like rap and hip hop, as long as it's not too "gangsta." I had to put that in quotes cause I'm a white chick and it just wouldn't sound right if I tried to say it like I'm from the hood. I'm not from the hood. I'm from Ft. Worth.Don't like country music but I can listen to KGSR. Does that count? I like a lot of classical music, because my sister is a professional flutist and she exposed me to it when I was in jr high. Yes, I actually have some CDs of Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, etc. I'm a big fan of piano concertos.I also like more mellow stuff like Cold Play, Sting, Sade, Portishead. Really like the song Boys of Summer by Don Henley. Don't know what it is about it but it's one of my all time favorites. Current favorites: Control by Missy Elliot. LOVE that song, it makes me wanna jump around and dance no matter what I'm doing when I hear it. Love Kanye West's Goldigger, I don't care if it's overplayed. I HATE the Black Eyed Peas "My Hump". Talk about lowest common denominator songwriting. I know they can do better. More favs: Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, 50 Cent, Nelly, Ludacris, The Bravery, Crystal Method.

Movies:

Garden State, House of Yes, Memento, Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, Crash, The Truman Show, Pulp Fiction, True Romance, Wedding Crashers, Team America: World Police, Meet the Parents, Royal Tennenbaums, Zoolander

Television:

Current favs: Chelsea Handler Show, The Colbert Report, Forensic Files, NCIS, Starved (damn them for cancelling it), Rescue Me with Dennis Leary. I find I'm drawn to shows featuring extremely dysfunctional people. Read into that what u will. LOVE Nip/Tuck. Love CSI (but only Vegas, not the spinoffs) Frasier reruns, Mind of Mencia, Seinfeld reruns, News Radio reruns, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sex & the City, Chapelle's Show (sucks that it's over), Reno 911 (big fan of the absurd), Scrubs, and just about any comedy on BBC. Love British humor.

Books:

This list is way too long 'cause I'm a total bookworm. Tho I won't pretend I read anything that's good for me. I don't do romance novels but I love courtroom dramas, medical dramas, and murder mysteries. It's just not a good book unless someone dies in the first 20 pages. Love David L. Lindsey. You read a few pages of his books and get completely sucked into the scene, it's like you're right there. Wish I could write like that. Tried reading a few self help books but just couldn't do it (though I'm sure I could use some fixing.) More favorite authors: Dominic Dunne (A Season in Purgartory was outstanding), Nelson DeMille (The Gold Coast was a great read) Sue Grafton, Patricia Cornwell, William Gibson, Scott Turow, Greg Iles, Mark Vonnegut. Eden Express was a good whacked out read. Faye and Jonathan Kellerman.
