I've already met him, but it wasn't enough. I would like to sit down and drink a cup of coffee with Elliott Smith. Actually talk to him and get to know him. Talk about music and film and even the stuff he liked to talk about, smart stuff that I don't know anything about. Physics and the like. Wanting this for myself is very selfish, I know. His family and friends, the people that really did know him, are grieving over the great loss in all their lives. 30 of them, and probably millions of me, fans that were impacted, but still just fans. I would take a half-hour with someone I've already met, over anyone else that I hadn't.
..1 with a bullet would go to Elliott Smith. His music has changed my life. I don't even want to know what I would be listening to today if I had never found Elliott. If you don't know about him, find yourself one song, any song, and listen to it. You will see what I see, I promise. I also love Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Patsy Cline. Niel Young, Ray Charles, and Willie Nelson. After that: rilo kiley, metric, the decemberists, songs: ohia, magnolia electric co., the elected, clap your hands say yeah, five iron frenzy, less than jake(hello rockveiw and earlier. actually, i should mention that i love all ska, ska-punk ska-core, and everything ska.), new found glory, tenacious D, the get up kids, fall out boy, cky, coheed and cambria, bear vs shark, q and not u, mae shi, aloha, bald eagle, call me lightning, man at arms, ari.ari., and victor! fix the sun. Guns n Roses, Pantera, Dio. Oh, Justin Timberlake, too. Anything that was recorded before I was born is awesome, and a lot of the stuff that got made while I was too young to know about is cool, too. It's not really hard to please me with music. I try to be open to anything. Some things do get on my nerves, and it's always the stuff everyone loves (nirvana, or radiohead). Sometimes, I like what my friends think is bad, and that's ok with me. And, if it came out of Michigan, you can bet it's good. I know what you are thinking, "ICP, Kid Rock???". That's not what I'm talking about, and you should know that, damnit. Of course, I am referring to Ted Nugent, and Motown. Really, I feel proud to live in the same state. Don't you?
