I've seen a lot of the world in the last years, came across a dizzying array of characters, and experienced things I'd not have held for true before. Conclusion: the world's a complicated, funny, and sometimes overwhelming place that seems to reward an open mind and an unconventional approach (except, of course, when the opposite is true!). Result is that I tend to get along well with somewhat eccentric, free-thinking, creative, intelligent and curious people who've chosen rather unconventional routes, though as with everything else, exception are plenty. So I'm looking to meet others who might cross paths with that description in some way or another, and are interested in swapping stories, experiences and outlooks, and sharing a bit of what makes Singapore (at least so far) a very nice place to be. More specificaly, maybe, I'm looking to met people whose music interests match mine - would be up for anything from checking out some music to playing together.
tastes tend to be a bit obscure - Bright Eyes and Dan Bern top the list, but the range is broad and includes the likes of Ani Difranco, Damien Rice, Erin Mckeown, Dylan, Citizen Copen... When reminded of my age, am also quite fond of reminiscing on the bad Lemonheads, Green Day, Pavement and, yes, Nirvana covers that I butchered as a wannabe rocker teenager (was once told after a gig that I sounded like Nirvana on drugs...) many years ago. All that said, is there a cooler singer around than Shirlyn of The Unxpected (if you dunno, head to Wala Wala or Balaclava)?
An eclectic mix, last few have been - "God Delusion", "Further Adventures of a London Call Girl", "The Tipping Point", "Jihad vs. McWorld", "Guns, Germs and Steel"... Douglas Coupland has been a long time favorite, have always gotten a lot from Nitzsche. Oh yeah, just finished (I'm not kidding) the Lee Kuan Yew memoirs - "Third World to First".
