Born in Washington Heights, NYC, at a young age Kenidel Lopez developed a taste for electronic dance music via House music mixtapes brought home weekly by his father. He was also heavily influenced by other genres of music such as Rap/Hip Hop, Freestyle, Ambient, and International Spanish music. Lopez soon began to brainstorm and imagine melodies, baselines and beats of his own. He became really big on instrumentals and dug music that inspired the mind through beats accompanied with lush sounds from strings, pads, and pianos.
The radio played a huge role in further influencing his taste in dance music. In 1996 he found out about a radio show called Solid State with Dj Liquid Todd where various styles of electronic dance music were mixed. He began to tape the show religiously every time it aired. Lopez became intrigued with music from various artists such as Oribital, Leftfield, FSOL, Paul Van Dyk, BT, Qattara, Oliver Leib (LSG), Way Out West, and so much more. Tracks such as "For an Angel" by PVD, "Halcyon + On + On" by Orbital, and "Flaming June" by BT left him awestruck by the beauty, depth and style of the music. He then knew that music is something he loves and wanted to produce in order to spread his own interpretations, ideas, and emotions through beats and melodies to reach out and return back the same euphoric feeling to all other fans of the genre, djs and producers alike.
At around 1998, having no studio equipment except for a keyboard given to him by his father, he began to record loops onto tape decks and recorded them together by having several tape decks play each loop at the same time while one records (not the best way to produce music unfortunately). In 1999, seeking a better method of producing and recording, and better tools to do so, he and Brooklyn native Thomas Datt discovered each other in a electronic music conference chat room where they began to exchange ideas and thoughts on dance music. Soon after, Thomas Datt referred Kenidel to computer music sequencing softwares and synths, which allowed both to each start producing music and begin their journey through Trance.
Kenidel Lopez and Thomas Datt went on to produce their first collaboration single "Antarctic Rain" which was remixed by Peter Dafnous. They then went on to remix Peter's tune "From here to eternity" on conspiracy recordings. Soon after, Lopez went back to vigorously work on his original productions and spent many hours tweaking his tunes to where he felt content enough with his productions. Finishing and spreading his tracks such as "Ai Suru" "Heavens Caliber" and remixing Ronski Speed's "Blue Horizon", Kenidel Lopez gained support from the likes of Luke Terry, Above and Beyond, Ronski Speed, Gerry Cueto, MK X, and Chris Hampshire. Thomas Datt ultimately forwarded all of Kenidel's tracks to Chris Hampshire of Recoverworld, and the rest was history.
With his forthcoming release on Eve Recordings with remixes and support from Thomas Datt, Innate, and Manuel Le Saux, Kenidel Lopez is definitely here to stay and extremely exited to be part of the dance music scene.
