About Me

Taken from our latest Presspack
Tapdance Junkies sees the Fast Emperors up their game and stake a claim to the latest in a long line of exciting Irish talent. Packed with enough hooks to keep you humming for months, their brand of infectious melancholy is always full of surprises.
From the pin drop intimacy of Orchard to the stadium sized head rush of Fireworks, Shane Megahey’s starry-eyed tenor sings of defiance in the face of adversity while the band swoop and swirl around him. The addition of sympathetic keyboards blends seamlessly with the Emperors’ trademark guitars and earthy grooves.
The band have been busy with gigs around Ireland and London including supports for the likes of the Ordinary Boys, Bellx1, Duke Special, the Duke Spirit, The Rakes, The Delays and The Black Keys as well as a number of sessions for Radio One and Radio Ulster.
More recently the band headlined the Belfast show on the IMRO Showcase tour, earning them a coveted slot in the ‘Best of Tour’ show in Dublin making an impression on press and industry alike. Subsequently, the band returned to Belfast to play to a packed Empire Music Hall shifting 340 copies of their new EP before playing at this years Popkomm festival in Berlin.

“All hail Fast Emperors, a band with authority and skill and heart. They always threatened to be this fine, but the songs were over-fussy in the past…now it sounds like they’re in an entirely new place, pulling lovely tunes out of the aether.”
Stuart Bailie BBC, May 2006
“In the past they seemed to be focussed heavily on looking the part…now, however, they’ve got the material to boot, with songs that felt as if they mattered. Maybe there’s something in the air up North, because that where tonight’s real contenders were from.”
Steve Cummins Review of IMRO Showcase, Dublin, HOTPRESS, June 2006
“Anthemic and melodic, Fast Emperors might just be the most exciting thing to come of the NI scene since…well, since their last band broke up.”
Colin Carberry HOTPRESS, June 2006
"Tapdance Junkies can take pride of place in the front rack of local CD releases...a five-track snippet of well-honed, four-minute indie-pop gems"
Mark Whyte DAILY MIRROR, October 2006
