Brit Funk Pioneers

About Me

MyGen Profile Generator Before achieving commercial success with 1979’s Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet, Gonzalez were known throughout the decade as one of the most popular bands on the London club scene, appearing regularly at clubs such as Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s, The Pheasantry, The Q Club and The Speakeasy. With their unique sound blending American funk and soul with Latin and Caribbean grooves, they were a huge influence on a generation of musicians, including members of the Average White Band and Incognito. Many of the group's members went on to make further significant contributions to the music world, performing/recording with acts such as Freddy King, Steelers Wheel, Jeff Beck, Chris Rea, George Michaels, Rod Stewart, Simple Minds, The BeeGees, Will Young, Wham, Steve Winwood, Boney M, Linda Lewis, Brian Ferry, Lauren Hill, Van Morrison, John Mayall, Eric Clapton and many more…
