My Interests

Music in all forms; any and all Festivals. People in general.

I'd like to meet:

Musicians/ Promoters/ People who love music

Music:

Too much to list. But so as not to dissapoint, to be going on with in typical MySpace fashion, a select and by no means comprehensive list has been alphabetised for your pleasure...Ambulance Ltd, Broken Social Scene, CSS, Devin Davis, Efterklang, Fiery Furnaces, Go Team, Hefner, Iron and Wine, Jim O'Rourke, King Creosote, Led Zeppelin, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, Pavement, Quasi, Raconteurs, Sufjan Stevens, Tuung, Under the Influence of Giants, Velvet Underground, Weezer, X, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Frank Zappa

Movies:

Bad Horror and Good Horror. Plus too many films to list so I won't.

Television:

I don't actually watch TV on purpose, it kind of starts when I'm hungover on Saturday morning, then spreads like a cancer over the rest of my weekend. I have no willpower.

Books:

Anything by:Kurt Vonnegut, Paul Auster, Martin Amis, Franz Kafka, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Philip K. Dick, J.G Ballard, Ray Bradbury, Edgar Allen Poe and Aldous Huxley

Heroes:

Bill Murray and Charlie Brown are my spirit guides. In terms of musos, lets be obvious shall we? Lester Bangs and John Peel? Let's face it, music fanatics never make it as big as musicians themselves except under fairly extreme situations... These are the only two that spring to mind...Feel free to argue, I'm sure you will...

Single Review - Pop Levi; Never Never Love (Counter Records)

Good pop music is a tricky thing to pull off successfully; great pop music is an even rarer thing, yet Pop Levi appears to have a knack for writing and producing irrepressibly catchy pop songs that wi...

Single Review - The Black Ghosts; I Want Nothing (Southern Fried)

Simon Lord and Theo Keating's manifesto as Black Ghost is a straight forward one - electronic pop with plenty of soul and, where necessary, a bit of griminess. So it is with "I Want Nothing", a skinny...

Single Review - Moguai; Kick Out The Jams (iO Music)

Skimmed from his forthcoming mix CD "I am X", "Kick Out The Jams" is Andre Tegeler's Moguai guise in full electro-clash heaven, bringing out the familiar riffs, beats and neon in hyper style. The orig...

Album Review - Soul Phiction; Do You Understand (Sonar Kollektiv)

Michel Baumann is a busy guy. The man behind the Jackmate moniker, and the Philpot & Phil E labels, he also finds time to release consistently good material for Playhouse, Perlon, DIY, Mule, and m...

Rory McKee/ Eureka Machines/ Ginger @ The Music Box - Manchester 27.02.08

The night started off quietly enough in this dim basement club to the soothing tones of Rory McKee, an emphatic Irish lad with a soothing voice who offered up a simple start to the nights events with ...

Lucy and the Caterpillar/ Semi Finalists/ Lightspeed Champion @ The Roadhouse 17.02.08

Holed up in Manchester’s premier gig-hosting sweatbox, The Roadhouse, appeared some of the brightest little known bands to grace our fair city in some time. First up was Lucy and the Caterpillar...

Young Husband/ David Dondero/ David Bazan @ Night & Day 05.02.08

Over in the hushed halls of the Night & Day, in my opinion one of the finest Dutch themed bars/ gig venues in the Manchester area, there was a quiet evening of acoustica scheduled. At the mention ...
