They don't try to validate their music, or their own 'being' by telling you that they want to save the world or influence all of the tragic products of their crime-ridden hoods. They don't pass themselves off as having more character or depth than they really do, bragging about rising above all the sadness of their childhood. And they don't pretend to make music for anything other than the sheer joy obtained by creating it."Uniqueness by way of simplicity. That's ChiCal in a nutshell. Derrick "Der'John" Johnson, Marcus "Muccs Milligan" Johnson, and Trent "TJ Beats" Harvey. Three brothers (by blood as well as race) who started rapping for the sheer joy of it. In 1995, we took it seriously as both our lyrical and production skills began to blossom. Once our sound was established, it was only fitting to choose a name that represented both our roots (2 born in Chicago, 1 in L.A.) as well as the music for which both cities were famous.Thus "CHI-CAL" was born. And since then, we've been holding our own promoting and performing at various L.A. hotspots and venues, (including an opening spot for Ice Cube's 'Westside Connection" at the L.A. Sports Arena) while accumulating a loyal fan base along the way. Plans for future performances are in the works, so check back often. For now, we're hard at work putting the finishing touches on our upcoming sophomore CD.
