About Me

Not much to see here, just your basic ex-technical-writer professional-poker-player college-radio-dj broadcasting-student.Oh yes, I am the Greatest Karaoke Singer Who Has Ever Lived.

My Interests

Link of The Inderterminate Time Period: SomethingAwful.com

I'd like to meet:

Tom Jones, A Real Live King, anyone who has ever been credited as a "Best Boy"

Music:

I'm a college radio DJ at KFJC (www.kfjc.org, see bulletins for when I am on). Commercial radio bites my ass. As far as I am concerned there is no reason for a radio dial to go above 92.3.
Favorite groups these days, by genre:
Hip-hop/Trip-hop
Lyrics Born
Lateef the Truth Speaker
DJ Crush
DJ Shadow
Cut Chemist
Mad Lib (especially Yesterday's New Quintet)
Jean Grae
MC Paul Barman
Busdriver
Rock/Pop
The Delgados
Stars
Beck
Soul Coughing
The Faint
The Fondas
Jason Webley
I also listen to musical soundtracks because I'm a big musical theatre dork. Current favorites include Ragtime, The Fantasticks, and Little Shop of Horrors.

Movies:

Serenity - ****
No review. Just see it. Well, when it comes out I mean. And if you really want to appreciate it, rent/buy the 13 episode run of Firefly first and prepare to be sad when it ends just as it is *really* getting good.

Television:

Don't have cable, but I watch TV shows on Netflix. Just finished watching the last season of Angel, which completed all of the Buffy/Angel saga. Kind of a disapointing last season all told. Some good ideas, some bad ideas, but nothing was ever followed for more than two episodes.Saw the first season of Deadwood, which I cannot recommend strongly enough. It was some of the most amazing dialog writing I have ever heard.

Books:

Currently reading Diamond Age by Niel Stephenson. Before that read Kafka on the Shore by Murakami. Despite what the cover blurb says, everything does not wrap up nicely at the end. I recommend it anyway.Other recently read books include Bill Bryson's A Brief History of Nearly Everything, which is good, but not nearly as comprehensive as the title suggests, and Jared Diamond's Guns Germs and Steel, which actually makes a nice companion piece to the Bryson book as it picks up roughly where Bryson leaves off.

Heroes:

My heroes have always been cowboys.

Philosophy and religion

I was raised without any religion. My mom likes to tell a story about she, my sister, and I visiting a California mission when I was about 5 or 6. Evidently I walked up to the alter, saw Jesus on the ...
