About Me

My page exists primarily because all of the talented people/bands that I love are here! So, cheers to all of you kickass guys and gals :).

*UPDATE : Still kinda tinkering.

{ Random $&*%^ of the Week: From one of my favourite authors - "A little sincerity is a dangerous thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal." ~Oscar Wilde }

I'm gonna drop dead one of these days, I know it. Heart attack, knife in the back... "Et tu, Brutus?"

2003-Present: I'm an East Coast transplant in sunny Southern California, from New York City (Manhattan and Queens, mostly) and the vast regions of the Fairfield and New Haven counties of Connecticut. Lol, which means that I love pizza, nightlife and walks in the park? I have travelled all over the Eastern seaboard, down into the sweaty humidity of Florida, and currently ending up in Long Beach/Los Angeles, surprising many other Easterners (like Jay and Flynn from MovieMob) that I know where and how to spell Worcester, MA! I must seem like a Cali girl ;).

I love to visit other countries to take in the culture: Meet the people, taste the food and have an overall good time. So, a couple of internationally known places are: Espana (2000), where in Sevilla - I flamencoed, flirted with a cute museum guard and visited todas las iglesias en la ciudad, Barcelona - I watched bullfights and had paella at a supper club at 2 a.m., Madrid - I got attacked by Gypsies and then danced the night away, Las Mijas - I mingled with the stinky burros, and picked up a nice jewelry box which fell apart two weeks later, Toledo - I fell in love with the city's metal/swordcraft and in La Costa del Sol, where massages and walking on the luxurious hotel beach during the full moon made up my mind to become really well-off financially (a.k.a. moderately to ridiculously rich) so that I can experience that as often as I want to. Then, Taiwan (2001) - The mountain spas are really beautiful, I love the exchange rate, and of course, the part of my family who lives there. Delicious street food, bus ride, museum ticket, a pair of fans and some souvenirs for less than 3 dollars! The rate was so good that I almost bought a Vespa there =P.

Almost everyone has heard the expression, "Home is where the heart is." I know which country my heart belongs to. I'm an American girl, born and bred. Even so, it is split in two, between the two places that I love and both have influenced me greatly - New York City and Long Beach. Rapidly coming up fast is L.A. and Boston. The people, the layouts and attractions, and just the native feel of each city hits me right in the tender spot of my heart. The winds of the future foretell that I'm going to end up having two houses on opposite sides of the country! Not too shabby.

Fun facts:
I've co-hosted a sex-talk radio show with two other girls on my old university campus. We had a great time slot from 12:00 a.m.-2:00 a.m. The show consisted of one part smut, one part gossip, one part sexual awareness/safety, and all parts awesome!
Used to do spoken word poetry at Ground Zero in the SoNo Arts District, and have gotten a poem published, entitled "Silence" in the International Library of Poetry anthology, Silent Solitude. I'm starting to archive some of my old poems, and post new/recent stuff in my Blog.

I have a fascination with blades and learning to fence. My collection consists of: a Celtic dirk, an English shortsword, a Highlander katana, two Chinese handblades/fighting knives and a Marine Corp. issue knife.

I enjoy being a part of and photographing really quirky or strange people, places and events. I will dare to try almost anything. Recent examples: Embarked on a definitely non-legal excursion to explore Gaebler Children's Center, an abandoned children's mental institute in Boston, was the OB/GYN for Team Stork at the L.A. Urban Iditarod 2008 (It's a human dog-race themed event), was the Arch-Nemesis for Mr. Cluck (I named him!) at National Pillow Fight Day - L.A. (Quasi-legal public pillow fight), an Agent in GuerilLA's Mission 3: Getty Center Art Walk/Mission 4: Ho, Hum. Starbuck's/Mission 5: It's New Year's Eve 2007 (again)! and a winsome pirate at BootieLA's 3-Year Anniversary Pirate Ball!
Check out my Pictures for details!

I love video games and PC games, but I'm a hardcore fan of all things Nintendo! I have Nintendo Classic, three versions of Nintendo Gameboys: Pocket, Pokemon - Pikachu, Advance SP, Nintendo DS and a Nintendo Wii. Current VG favorites: SSBB, RockBand and Guitar Hero; PC favorites: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind; Any Guybrush Threepwood game. [CycloEvolution for the DS <3.]

I created my own signature drink in 2001 after the infamous Simpsons vodka fiasco. I call it a Sweetie, though I think I may have to register it somewhere. The Sweetie is sweet and simple like its name, and is made with 2 oz. Amaretto Disaronno Originale and Sprite. DeKuyper or Di Amore can be used, but why would you? I'm also partial to ales of all types: Newcastle, Bass, Guiness, Hefeweizen, etc. and Peach Bellinis (The best have been at Olive Garden and The Cheesecake Factory).

I'm big on self-teaching. One can always hope for a mentor, but when it comes down to it, if you want to do something really badly...you have to take the initiative to do it on your own. Self-doables: Knitting, Belly-dancing, HTML, Photoshop CS3.

I'm a rare girl that tends to like the guy's face more than the guy's body. (Stop giving me shit, Shan :(.) Attraction is mostly in the mind. Until someone proves to me otherwise, I'll take a nerd any day. In the words of Darrin, "We recognize our own." Lol.

Had a childhood aspiration to become a Victoria's Secret model. For the free underwear, you see.

Funny Quotes from Friends:

B-Ri: "That pizza looks like date rape."
Me: "Oh my god, it's Date Rape Pizza!"

Lisa: "Elaine, you look like a girl who likes hard liquor." (Lol. Why is that? But, she was right. I liked vodka straight up, once upon a time.)

Shan: "Like, fuckin' for real, girl?"

June: "OMB."

Richard: "La la la. Starving for Biscuits!"

Charlene: "Eggslacticlee. I mean, exactically. Exactly!"

Austin: "I has a bucket."

Brett (Opaque): "I don't know what it is. It's like she has this sense. Every time I take a picture, everyone else is oblivious. But, she's always in the right direction smiling at the camera." Dwayne: "It's...Sapphire sense!"

John (Big J): "It was just an epic path of shit."

Dr. O'Toole: "Slow down, Turbo."

Darrel: "Mountain hoboes."

Kassie: "I'm in mango productions."

Alessandro (who is Brazilian): "That smelled like an American fart to me."
Me: "What exactly does that smell like...? Beef?"
A: "*laughs* Yup. Beef."

Jason: "It's 3 a.m. Soooo tired."
Me: "Noooo. That's still early! It's all about the late night, done right. And I'm not talking about fast food here. But...that sounds pretty good right about now."

David: "Elaine, you have strong energy."
Me: "You mean, like a force field?"
D: "EXACTLY like a force field."
Adrian: "It's just a matter of 4-D till we meet."

Randy: "Yeah, I know. Next time, you can chain me up and bring me along!"

Trixxie: "Hey, be my friend, sexy beast!!!" (Wow. I've never been called a sexy beast before. I think I like it ;).)

Ruth: "Are you saying that she's one French Fry short of a Happy Meal?" Yeah...

Brandon: "I just got an erection looking at your collection." (The collection of CDs strewn all over the passenger side of my car.)

Ryan: "You just digitally kicked my ass."

Mark: "Now, I know whose house I'm running to when the dinosaurs attack!"

Simon: "I'm going to be riding this fucking bus until I'm THIRTY!!" (Drinking game.)

Rady: "Girl, that was so status."

Mommy (sing-song): "Am I talking to a wall?"
Marilyn: "I'm a wall!"

Marilyn: "You don't have to leave me a tip."
Charlene (sliding over a $1 coin): "Take it, like a good little capitalist."

Luke: "It always ends with, "There's a hot girl and she TOTALLY wants you.""

Flip Side a.k.a Total Opposite of Funny:

Brandon: "I know that you don't like drama, but sometimes people come with drama built-in."

[I am the Chairperson Supreme for the Anti-Drama Association of America (ADAA - Western Region: Los Angeles Chapter.) For the love of all that is good in the world, please do not tell me that people come with drama Starter Packages. I might just have to lay down in the middle of the street and wait to die.]
I'm overreacting, but drama is no laughing matter...unless you're on a stage.

My Interests

Finishing up my Business degree into an MBA as fast as I can, while still trying to enjoy the ride; idealistically making a positive contribution to the world; friends of all backgrounds and creeds along the way to kick back, talk and hang out with; continuously developing my language base (Spanish, Italian, Mandarin); playing my violin; learning to play the guitar and horseback ride; would love to take archery and fencing classes!; roadtrips (To San Francisco, National State Parks, abandoned water slides, etc.); My own little "private" club a.k.a. my car - where I rock out (singing and shimmying) to whatever CD is on/iPod Touch; developing and maturing into a cunning linguist, instead of being a master debater. (Yes, pun intended.) and learning to tame my "inner beasties" a.k.a maintaining my Zen monk-ish discipline. And the BIG interest...Facebook. I should be in FJA (Facebook Junkies Anonymous) or something because I love it so much. My love is so profound that I should probably marry and make an honest website out of it.

I'd like to meet:

Jackie Chan, because he's come such a long way from where he was born and accomplished so much in his lifetime (learning English, crossing all sorts of international barriers, etc.). Plus, he kind of looks like my dad.

Neil Gaiman! He is an explosive force of creativity. Just from reading his books and graphic novels (which I value more than his movies because of the usual adaptation problems. Though MirrorMask was the sh*t.)...the world inside his mind is a wondrous and scary place. I didn't go to ComicCon last year and so missed my chance to meet him face-to-face and congratulate him on the releases of his gorgeous Sandman reproductions.

The beautiful and talented ladies of Bond. I don't think that they get enough credit for doing what they do. Sure, people classify this quartet as classical pop, but then any person or band who is currently popular are considered "pop", aren't they? Anyway, I'd love to do a violin solo with them!

Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies of Silverchair because I practically grew up with them. I've listened to Silverchair and adored their music from when they first released Frogstomp, up until present, with Young Modern. Still kicking myself for not going to see them play at the House of Blues in Anaheim :(.

Mos Def. But, of course, Mos Def. It would be my pleasure to meet him. Skilled rapper, quirky actor and a great sense of humour. He loves "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and tries to create social awareness. Need I say more?

Which skillfully leads into the incomparable Jack Black of Tenacious D. Jack, Jack. What can I say? He seems like so much fun. A little raunchy but that's the way he rolls. I love the way he rocks, but enjoys himself at the same time. What a great way to live.

Dave Grohl's led such a full and amazingly intense life, and still maintained a sense of humour and love for his music. It would be an honour to exchange words with this man.

I don't really get starstruck, but I do get completely awed by people who do what they love because they do it so well, and their passion for their music, comedy, sport, etc. hits you like a hammer. I can't help but get caught up in it.

Having lived in SoCal since 2003, I've expected to meet and have been gushed at about celebrities...I figure that they're just people with really cool jobs. My reasons for wanting to meet people (who just happen to be well-known or famous for something that they have done) is that I like them and am genuinely interested in finding out their personal stories of dedication (of each member, if it's a band/team), where he/she/they're from, what they hope to do with their craft in the future, etc.

Whom I've Met:

Peter S. Beagle (author of the Last Unicorn and a lovely man).

Anna Tsuchiya (singer/actress/model of a band formerly known as Spin Aqua, co-star of Kamikaze Girls and so so cute!)

Patton Oswalt (comedian/actor most known for his stand-up comedy and for being the voice of Remy in Ratatouille. He's a very gracious and down-to-earth guy.)

The members of VAST (Jon, Ben, Michael, Sam and Tabber - Alternative rock band that I've been listening to since 2000 and they've only gotten better since! I think that I seemed like a fangirl so they didn't really warm up to me too much. Lol, probably because I had them sign my ticket stub, poster and rounded them all up to take pictures with them. Though, I think I'm allowed a little leeway being how it was the first time I had ever since them in concert.)

The members of Starving For Gravity (Lucas - what a voice!, Caleb who kicks ass on the drums, Brett - a true rockstar on his bass, Brad - the ultimate guitar god and Richard - being a melodious punk on his keyboard.) These guys are so awesome, very laid-back, humble and totally willing to talk about their backgrounds and joke about each other. Plus, they can kick back shots of Jagermeister like no one's business ;)!

Caught up with the guys from OK Go at The Steve Allen Theater. Seem like nice blokes...busy, but fairly affable.

15 North is an up and coming band from Murrieta that I think has a lot of potential! Their music takes me back to the Nirvana days but with a touch more hard rock. Samuel is the embodiment of his music when he sings and he's really nice, too. Briefly met Twiggs and Bryce, but wasn't able to meet Cameron. Think he was putting stuff away. Next time!

The POP NOIR trio: Luke, Joe and Nico! Wonderful musicians and friendly guys as well. They have a great time talking to anyone who is interested and aren't afraid to get down amongst the fans!

The Wombats :)! These guys are great. The Roxy show had incredible energy and was so fun to be at. I love their songs, but seeing them get so into the show really sucked me right into their vibe. During the show, Tord was completely caught up in rockin' out that he didn't even notice the girl sitting at the corner of the stage who was constantly screaming that she loved him, and even plucked at his pant leg. He was super nice and fun to talk to. I didn't get to talk to Dan much, and Murph was very amiable but tired from the show (Rest up, buddy). Have fun touring and hope to see you soon!
