....Life, Love, and things left unsaid....

About Me

~All the darkness in the world could not put out the light of one small candle~

My name is Jennifer. I am 32 years old and live in Camillus, NY with my boyfriend Bill of 15 years and our 14 year old son, Devon. I work for a Veterinary Hospital doing a little of everything. My job title is Kennel Attendant, but the majority of my job is being an assistant to the Tech's and Vet's.
I am an advocate for Animal Rights, Animal Welfare and Mental Health Awareness. I rescue Feral and Domestic Cats and currently have 22 Cats, 2 Shetland Sheepdogs and 2 Painted turtles.

On a more personal level I am a very open person, but im also intensely private. Behind my quiet exterior lies a great deal of emotional depth, sensitivity, complexity. I am not a person who lives lightly or superficially. I want to live passionately and intensely and am not averse to challenge or facing the darker side of life - human pains and struggles. I am very intuitive about other people and especially about their unspoken feelings and hidden motives. I approach life very instinctively and am not always fully conscious of why I feel or act as I do. I have a very strong affinity with animals - an acute sensitivity and a nonverbal kind of rapport with them. In relation to others, I am rather cautious, sometimes even suspicious, until I get to know and trust them. If I am ever betrayed by someone I care deeply for, I am capable of hating and retaliating with as much as I once loved. I am intensely involved and often greatly attached to whatever I care about, be it person, idea, or cause. I am quite protective and often defensive, especially when it comes to my family. Though, In the times we live in, I cant see being any other way.

Over the years, I have worked at a zoo, in animal shelters, grooming/boarding kennels, pet shops and as a veterinary assistant and technician. I have been involved in Animal Rights groups (locally and nationally) for over 15 years. Locally I am a member of Community Animal Project of Syracuse, NY (http://communityanimalproject.org/), People for Animal Rights of CNY(http://peopleforanimalrightsofcny.org/), Farm Sanctuary (http://www.farmsanctuary.org/) and volunteer as often as I can to local animal welfare organizations including (SANS) Spay and Neuter Syracuse (http://spayandneutersyracuse.org/).

Please, help us put an end to the overpopulation of domestic animals. SPAY and NEUTER your pets..And keep them INSIDE!

My Interests

Cats, shetland sheepdogs, animals, alternative music, classic rock, mental health, law, domestic cat rescue, feral cat rescue, wildlife rehabilitation, animal rights, animal welfare, poetry, gardening, sunsets, hot summer days/nights, being alone and in the company of friends and good people, meeting new people and animals, reminiscing with old friends, photography, volunteering, smelling flowers and freshly cut grass, day dreaming, the peacefulness of nature, playing with my 22 cats, 2 dogs, and listening to cats purr.

I'd like to meet:

I would like to meet other like minded people: thinkers, dreamers, animal lovers, people involved in animal rights/welfare issues and people with compassion for one and all. Also, Persons with a mental illness or who have family or friends with a mental illness. I would especially like to meet others who have a parent with a mental illness. Persons who have physical illness or disease, persons who have gone through or are still going through an abusive relationship. People who truly care about the state of the world today and wish to take part in helping to make that change. Friendly people. People who have been deeply hurt. People who isolate. People who feel that they just don't "fit in". People with eating disorders. People who are struggling with drug or alcohol addictions or are close to someone who is or has. Or, people who just need a friend. Even if we live all the way on the other side of the world.. Its nice to know that someone somewhere is thinking about you and cares. Even if they don't know you personally. If you want a friend to keep contact with, send a lil note to every once and a while and get the same in return.. I'll be your friend.. if you will be mine =)

Also, I grew up in Rochester, NY and am hoping to find friends I have lost touch with over the years. Schools I attended were St. Helens, School 44, Our School, and Rochester Christian School.

The Witness,
In the award-winning documentary THE WITNESS, Eddie Lama explains how he feared and avoided animals for most of his life, until the love of a kitten opened his heart, inspiring him to rescue abandoned animals, become a vegetarian, and ultimately, to bring his message of compassion to the streets of New York.

With humor and sincerity, Eddie tells the story of his remarkable change in consciousness, sharing along the way some of the shocking realities of the meat and fur industries.

Featuring the song "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan, this is a story of beauty and transcendence in the face of tragedy and despair.

At a time when factory farming is in the headlines for putting the environment and public health at risk, Peaceable Kingdom takes its audience on an eye-opening journey to the heart of this unfolding national drama.

Propelled by the testimony of farmers who have themselves come to question the fundamental assumptions behind their community's way of life, the film delivers a riveting portrait of human and animal lives caught up in an out of control industrial machine.

Much more than an exposé, Peaceable Kingdom is about personal redemption, commitment, healing and hope, offering a life-changing vision of a peaceful world that is well within our reach.

My Great Grandmother Victoria Battaglia aka Nanny (above) who passed on when I was very young. She came to the United States around 1900 from Calabria, Italy with her husband and family members to start a new life. She was a very strong woman and a passionate animal lover.

My Great Aunt Catherine Battaglia aka Kiki (above) who passed on in 1996. She raised me thoughout the years that my mother could not. She had great love and respect for animals which she passed onto me and allowed me to take in strays at 7 years old.. which molded me into the person I am today.

My Mother Patricia Delany (above) who passed on 10/4/04 at the young age of 49. She was an amazingly strong woman who suffered her entire life with a very sever form of Schizophrenia. Through her I learned to see life in a different light than most. I learned compassion, understanding, tolerance and patience. She was a wonderful mother, teacher and friend.
