Janne Åströmwas born in 1960 in the town of Falun, Sweden,. At the age of 15 he started his first rock band High Pressure. Since then he has always been singing. The bands throughout the years have been Mr Weed, Now, Endless Day, Universe, No way Rubber Duck, True Cosmic Trampoline, Lobotomax, Hot Soup and Medborgarna. 1978 Janne Åström received a scholarship from The San Francisco Conservatory of Music, USA, where he studied classical singing. After four years in San Francisco he moved to Stockholm, Sweden. The first year in Stockholm he was still aiming for an opera career, but was soon offered work with bands. Janne knew he had his heart in rock music, so the years that followed up until 1989 he did nothing else but rock. In 1989 a big change took place, Janne was asked to play the leading role in a new written musical called La Belle Epoque. The English produced version of the musical Les Miserables in Stockholm was next. Playing one of the leading roles as the policeman Javert, it was clear that Janne was on the right track. The musical business inspired him to pursue a career in acting. Soon he was offered other parts in musicals such as the voice of the meat eating plant Audrey 2 in Little Shop of Horrors, the mob boss Big Jule in Guys and Dolls, Samuel Nöjd in the musical Kristina från Duvemåla written by Björn & Benny from ABBA. Janne did his latest musical roll 1999 in Annie, when his carrier made another turn.In January 2000 the most legendary showpalace in Sweden, - Hamburger Börs -, had premier of a new comedy show by the name of R.E.A. Handpicked along with four other members Janne is part of a comedy group that ever since have been playing one of the most successful shows in Stockholm, - the longest playing comedy show in Sweden ever. R.E.A has made two TV series each including eight programs, and many other appearances on the Swedish television.Janne has been seen frequently in different television programs. Also we have seen Janne in films both on the theatres and television. The collaboration with the pianist Robert Wells has been a very good way of reaching a bigger audience. Roberts show Rhapsody in Rock is one the best selling and most attended shows in Scandinavia. Janne has off and on been with Robert since 2001. Janne Åström has been playing with his band Medborgarna - guitarist and rock hero Conny Bloom; the one and only Svante Drake, who plays the "mouth drum;" the legendary Pärtan Lundqvist on acoustic guitar; and conductor Benneth Fagerlund on keyboard - since 1997. The bands unique combination of members has made them very popular, they are often talked about as cult phenomena in Stockholm. Their repertoire includes everything from Swedish folk songs to hard rock - there's something to suit every taste
