A Minneapolis-based ensemble consisting of Sitar, Voice and Tabla.Mashari Trio is a musical conversation of open expression and free will.A dialogue speaking slowly along harmonic lines before the melodies andpoetry evolve into a improvisational engagement and onto a life of their own.This, their self-titled debut recording together, is the ground work to developing an improvisational style unique to themselves. Recorded live at Sacred Heart Studios in Duluth, MN- it captures a moment in time, like a sonic snapshot—definitely one to save.Musically trained and studied in a variety of styles, each musician brings the ability to speak to each other—and as a group, in a musical way that is both unique and engaging to the listener.Sitar player Mark Ilaug is well-versed in Western music as well as IndianClassical traditions. Sitar is a stringed instrument from India, expressing melody and rhythm. Being a musician of 25 years; an accomplished guitar player, Mark is a student of Hindustani Classical Sitar and is devoted to developing and expressing his voice through his instrument.Shahzore Shah is currently a member of Cantus, the Twin Cities-based male a cappella vocal ensemble. Primarily a performer of opera, oratorio and chamber music and informed by years of listening to ghazal poetry, Indian classical and pop music, Shahzore offers a rich vocal texture to the collaboration.Richard Davenport performs and speaks with Tabla, a pair of small different-sized hand drums used in Indian Classical Music. Expressing a sound that is as unique as it is beautiful.
