About Me

In addition to gigging and recording with some of the most wonderful musicians in a variety of venues I have regular collaboration with the jazz trio '3bpm' (www.myspace.com/threebpm) and the 'Frank Hockney trio': Some info about their recordings and bands follow:Shown in the music section opposite, there are clips from '3bpm'. The album is an 11 tracker, comprising 3 originals penned by the brilliant Martin Pickett and re-workings of some rather unusual pieces including, stuff by Van Morrison (Cleaning Windows), Peter Gabriel (Don't Give Up), Pat Metheney (The Red One) and Elvis Costello (Baby Plays Around). The CD which is called ‘First Hearing’ was recorded live at Porcupine Studios in London and features Martin Pickett (piano), Ben Twyford (drums) and me on double bass. Immense credit also goes to Nick Taylor who produced and engineered the recordings so effortlessly and made incredibly strong but delicious coffee – and to the genius which is Tim Turan of Turan Audio who mastered the whole thing. Nothing super clever here, just a collection of great tunes and harmonies played by three guys that are beginning to really gel musically. There are also tracks here from the excellent & ecclectic drummer Frank Hockney’s album. The title is ‘Tempus Incognitum’ – check out Frank’s web site www.frankhockney.co.uk According to Frank who knows about these things, Tempus Incgnitum is a reference to hidden rhythms - and believe me there are plenty of them in this excellent CD. Frank had us playing Bulgarian Songo's, Middle Eastern melodies with 7/4 over 4/4, Rock Samba's and loads more enticing. What really strikes is the seamless way in which tracks move into eachother.
