El género villero comenzó a tener adeptos en Argentina y ante la sorpresa de muchos empresarios y gente ligada al ambiente de la cumbia, cuando parecía que el género no iba a subsistir, Pablo Lezcano (creador de “Flor de Piedra”) se animó a más y creó en el año 2000, “Damas Gratis”. La aceptación que tuvo fue total y la gente comenzó a identificarse con las letras y con el ritmo de esta “nueva onda”. No sólo se escuchaba en las bailantas, sino también en las discotecas. En el año 2001, la discográfica Magenta buscaba un producto que pudiese incursionar en este género y poder equiparar el éxito alcanzado por “Damas Gratis”. Uno de sus productores, Kapo, comenzó a trabajar junto a Ariel Salinas en el proyecto. Hicieron las maquetas de cuatro temas, hicieron dos maquetas cada uno y cuando se juntaron escucharon lo que había hecho cada uno. Juntos le fueron dando onda a los temas, pero pensaron que necesitaban temas más comerciales y pegadizos. Entonces se abocaron a completar el disco y para eso quedaron en hacer cuatro temas más cada uno y volverse a juntar. Los primeros cuatro demos fueron: Duraznito, Cinco amigos, Poliguampa y Muchacho de la villa. Cuando completaron los 12 temas, se juntaron y se pusieron a laburar en la grabación del disco. Tanto Ariel como Kapo, coincidían que a pesar de tener 12 temas buenos, faltaba “el tema”, ese que podía hacer despegar a la banda. Se pusieron a trabajar y nació “Andrea”. Decidieron sacar uno de los 12 temas que habían hecho y reemplazarlo, por ese nuevo, al cual los dos apostarían todas sus fichas. Luego de un mes y medio de mucho esfuerzo y dedicación de parte de los dos, Kapo llevo el producto terminado a la compañía Magenta. La sorpresa y aceptación que causo fue general. Eso era exactamente lo que el presidente de la compañía, Norberto Kirovsky y su Director Artístico, Roberto Ricci, estaban buscando. Solo faltaban dos pequeños detalles: este grupo con temas comerciales y pegadizos, no tenia ni cantante, ni nombre. Los demos los había grabado Ariel Salinas. Kapo convenció a los responsables de la compañía, en que Ariel era la persona ideal para cantar. Lo aceptaron y empezaron a pensar entre todos en el nombre de la banda. Entre todos los nombres sugeridos, todos coincidieron en cual era el ideal: “Los Pibes Chorros”. El nombre generó mucha polémica en Argentina, porque es un término bien argentino, que significa “muchachos ladrones” o “muchachos delincuentes”. Los productores comenzaron a trabajar y a promocionar el nuevo disco, logrando en menos de tres meses una aceptación extraordinaria de parte del público. El grupo comenzo a crecer en popularidad y los temas mas escuchados de ese primer disco, fueron: “Andrea”, “El tano pastita”, “Duraznito”, “Los pibes chorros” y Sentimiento Villero”. Ese placa llego a disco de oro en tres semanas. La locura generalizada que provocaba la banda en cada una de sus presentaciones, y la gran cantidad de trabajo que tenían tanto los músicos, como los productores, limitaba el tiempo que tenían Kapo y Ariel, para hacer los temas para el segundo disco. Kapo se puso a trabajar en el nuevo material y compuso el primer corte de lo que sería la segunda placa: “La lechera”. Ese tema comenzó a difundirse y el público lo convirtió en otro hit. Eso les dio aire y tiempo para poder componer los otros temas y así completaron otra placa que en un mes fue disco de oro. Los otros temas más escuchados de esa segunda placa fueron: “El prisionero”, “Solo le pido a Dios”, “Llegamos los Pibes Chorros” y “Mabel”. La banda comenzó a escucharse en todas las radios del país y su imagen también se empezó a ver en la televisión argentina. Los pibes, estuvieron en varias telenovelas, entre ellas “Son Amores”, tocando con el personaje de Mariano Martinez (“Marquesi”), “Muñeca Brava” con Natalia Orebro y en programas deportivos y de actualidad, como “Mar de fondo” (con Alejandro Fantino), “Después de hora” (con Daniel Hadad), “Intrusos” (con Jorge Rial), “Venite con Georgina” (con Georgina Barbarrosa) y muchos programas más, además de los canales del interior de la Argentina. Ya era hora de tener un disco en vivo y para eso, se pusieron a trabajar y decidieron entre Kapo y Ariel, grabar cuatro temas nuevos en estudio y el resto en vivo. Así nacieron en ese disco en vivo “El pibe tripa”, “Maria Esther”, “La danza chorra” y “Juan Perez”. Con el alejamiento de su locutor “El Punga”, la banda comenzo otra etapa de su historia. Ya era un icono de la cumbia y una banda emblemática dentro del ritmo villero. Su cuarto material tuvo varios éxitos, que hoy por hoy, siguen sonando en todo el mundo: “Que calor”, “Carolina”, “La colorada”, “Las pibas quieren sexo”, “Palmas Arriba” y “Una copa más”. El grupo siguió trabajando y su ritmo llegó a cruzar las fronteras, hasta llegar a Uruguay, Paraguay y Brasil. El ritmo contagioso y pegadizo de los temas, gano adeptos en todos los países que el grupo pudo visitar. En 2004 grabaron su quinto material “El poder de la guadaña” con éxitos como: “Colate un dedo”, “Mala mujer”, “Pamela”, “Hace Calor” y “El violín”. Luego de este material, la relación entre Ariel y los productores se fue desgastando y ambas partes decidieron que cada uno debía seguir su camino. Ariel, se hizo solista y creó “El traidor y los pibes”, mientras “Los Pibes Chorros”, siguieron con su nuevo vocalista, Victor Loizati. Con su nuevo vocalista la banda pudo volver a grabar, luego de dos años de no editar un disco, y pudo consolidarse a nivel mundial, con giras por México, Ecuador y EEUU. Sus éxitos se escuchan en Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, República Dominicana, Venezuela y en gran parte de Europa, lugares que muy pronto serán visitados por la banda.
