The genetic mutation responsible for red hair, also known as the 'ginger gene,' originally popped up in norhern Europe thousands of years ago. According to genetic scientists, redheads consist of only 2% of the world's population! Although they have always been rare, the gene is becoming so scarse that redheads are essentially endangered, and scientists are warning that they could be extinct as soon as 100 years from now. In fact, some scientists claim that natural redheads could disappear as soon as 2060!
According to an article in The Courier-Mail, "Global intermingling, which broadens the availability of possible partners, has reduced the chances of redheads meeting and so producing little redheads of their own." (August 22, 2007).
What we are
Save the Gene is about celebrating the splendor of redheads, and spreading awareness about our scarcity. We are for anyone who is or digs a redhead!
What we are not
We are not... most definitely NOT white supremecists or race supremecists of any kind. We do not support discrimination against non redheads, non-freckled, people who can sunbathe without burning etc...
We are here for ALL, in good spirit and good humor to recognize a subculture in all of it's firey glory.
What can I do?
Save the gene, ride a redhead! In order to preserve the ginger-gene, redheads must do their part to procreate as much as possible! It only takes one red-headed parent to pass on the gene. Even if the offspring of a redhead do not have red hair, they still carry the recessive ginger-gene and can pass it on in the future.
Daywalkers and gingers unite! Men must spread their seed far and wide, and women should begin baking. That cute redhead you've been dying to ask out? Go for it, and if possible, begin sexin immediately.
