EVOLUTION speaks the sound of truth. It's like licking honey off the edge of a knife, cutting edge, yet it sounds so sweet. Still containing the original ingredients of soul, pop, r&b, electronica, hip-hop and dance - Paul Manchin ... will penetrate through your body and mind.
Paul's twelve previous releases received accolades in North America. Sticking with a formula that works, Paul has collaborated with Brent Bodrug who produced Manchin's PHOBIA (1997), DEBUT (1998), LIFE (1999), NATURAL (2001) and BUZZ... (2003). In addition, Paul has released TRINITY (2000), AMERICA (2001), ENTITY (2002), SOFT ROMANTIC NEURO ARTSY (2004), PIMP (2005), UNTITLED (2006) and EXITUS (2006). Bodrug, an accomplished musician himself, was formerly a protege of jazz great Oscar Peterson. Brent has also worked with Alanis Morissette (Maverick), Carlos Morgan (R&B Juno Award Winner), Jacksoul (BMG), Son (Warner) and various other artists.
Paul's dedication to his music is exemplified by what he endured to get his music out there. His music has caught the attention of Billboard Magazine's Larry Flick who has described Manchin using his "lovely, soulful voice (January 10, 1998)" and his songs a "feisty package of memorable, rhythm-smart gems (January 13, 2001)." Manchin has performed at various clubs in New York City and other parts of North America, capturing the attention of some of NYC's renowned DJ's and has also graced airwaves internationally.
His musical credits include work he has done with Jack D. Elliot (David Foster, N'Sync, Britney Spears, Brandy, Backstreet Boys, Nick Lachey), Spyros Poulos (Madonna, Celine Dion), Peter Gabriel, Ervin Drake (Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Billie Holiday, LeAnn Rimes, Tony Bennett, Sheryl Crow, Robbie Williams, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Jill Scott), Calvin Roberts (Jade Elektra), Nick Krayger, Chin Injeti (Bass Is Base, Ashley MacIssac, Mary Jane Lamond), Oliver Johnson (Ivana Santilli), Alexandra Slate (Hollywood Records/Universal), DJ LethalRush (Subtle Rukus/Universal), DJ Julian Marsh (Dolly Parton, Boy George, Whitney Houston), Xenon (Missy Elliot, Ceevox), DFF (Googoosh), Lawrence Roach, Paul Milner (Keith Richards, I Mother Earth, Eddy Grant, Robert Palmer, The Headstones), Dario DeCicco (Terry Brown, Paul Penner), Doc West (Jay Williams, Onyx, Guru), David Williams (Esthero, Joydrop), Brenda Spencer (Stevie Wonder, Liberty Silver, Barney Bentall), Ryan Latham, Tomas Marsh, Duke Foster, Ron Perkov (Marc Anthony, Dionne Warwick), Keith Haarmeyer (Martha Wash), Denzil Remedios, Jami, Chris Briscoe, The +echnofunk collec+ive (Nelly Furtado), Paul Russo and Candi Pennella (Candi and the Backbeat).
PAUL MANCHIN'S MUSIC REVIEWS...
Billboard Magazine Paul Manchin "Phobia" CD By Larry Flick
Manchin doesn't beat around the bush on this button-pushing, endlessly earnest tune. With a lovely, soulful voice that has already drawn fond comparisons to George Michael, this intriguing newcomer wastes no time getting to the heart of the matter with chants of "We don't need it...we need love." All the while, a funk-induced groove comfortably shuffles along. In order for Manchin to have an impact, he needs to sell "Phobia." But he certainly has the voice and melodic tendencies to possibly make it happen.
Billboard Magazine Paul Manchin "Debut" CD By Larry Flick
We absolutely adore and revere artists who don't feel the need to censor themselves in the name of racking up high retail numbers. On his ballsy, politically charged B-Group Music disc, "Debut," New York newcomer Paul Manchin proves that you can play lyrical hardball and deliver songs that are widely accessible.
Produced by Brent Bodrug, the solid, pop-fortuned set. "It's simplistic, but it's effective-especially given its jiggly house instrumental content and Manchin's suave, George Michael esque voice."
Billboard Magazine Paul Manchin "Life" CD By Larry Flick
AT A TIME when nearly every appealing young male artist in the pop mainstream is locked into a teen-focused boy group, Paul Manchin is a refreshing change of pace. On his self-made disc "Life," he displays the potential to help turn the top 40 tide toward solo belters.
The project is actually the artist's second full-length recording. His first, 1998's "Debut," earned critical raves in his native Toronto as well as in New York (where he spends much of his time writing and recording) and Los Angeles. "Life" picks up where "Debut" ends in combining classic-pop melodies with dance-inflected rhythms that are equally accessible to crossover radio and club turntables. Manchin is a charismatic presence, conjuring up accurate comparisons to George Michael with a rich tenor voice that he flexes to soulful effect. Among the many gems on "Life," which Manchin produced with Brent Bodrug, is the title cut, on which he waxes philosophical about walking down a left-of-center lane. "Sharing my perception of what I see and encounter in everyday life with others is what drives me as an artist," he says. "The way that we learn is through talking about the things that are around us and sharing ideas with other people."
Manchin is servicing the disc, which also features the house-friendly "Weird," to radio and club DJs. He's planning several showcases in New York and Toronto later this season.
Splendid Paul Manchin "Trinity" CD By Ha-N
Remember a couple summers ago when that dance hit by Ultra Nate, "Free", was constantly on the radio? It was in every dollar store and Filene's Basement and it blasted from every Iroc that passed (Fill in your own regional equivalents -- Ed.). It was super-cheesy in the best possible way. Paul Manchin is kinda like that. He's got catchy dance tunes that get stuck in your head. In fact, if the album wasn't self-released, I would bet that these tunes would be following you around the mall and at the gym. And just like any good dance album, almost every song is the "something-or-other remix". Bonus points are scored for Trinity being an enhanced CD-ROM. If you're into dance hits or are planning a dance party and you can find this CD, pick it up.
Billboard Magazine Paul Manchin "Natural" CD By Larry Flick
NATURAL SOUL: It's been a pleasure to watch Paul Manchin's music evolve over the past few years. The Canadian pop-star-in-waiting has been effectively mining a sound that lands somewhere between mainstream belter George Michael and club veteran Robert Owens. With his latest self-made disc, "Natural," he delivers his most assured, fully realized recording to date.
"Natural" integrates elements from soul, pop, R&B, electronica, hip-hop, and dance, which the artist playfully calls "SPREHD." "It's fresh and funky," he says. "A 'natural' progression in my sound." "Natural" is the newest addition to Manchin's already impressive discography. His three previous B-Group releases received critical acclaim in the U.S. Sticking by with a formula that works, Manchin has once again collaborated with Brent Bodrug, who produced the artist's discs "Phobia" (1997), "Debut" (1998), and "Life" (1999). Additionally, Manchin has worked with a range of musicians that includes Spyros Poulos, Calvin Roberts, Chin Injeti, and Candi Pennella. It all adds up to a feisty package of memorable, rhythm-smart gems.
Seen Magazine Paul Manchin "Natural" CD By Al Latanski
Paul Manchin's "NATURAL" is the title of his latest 13-song CD recording.
Under the B-Group music, Paul currently resides in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
To date, Paul has successfully recorded three full length CD's including "Debut," "Life" and "Phobia." In the past, Paul was featured in Billboard Magazine. This is what Billboard said of Paul's CD "Debut."
"Manchin doesn't beat around the bush on this button-pushing, endlessly earnest collection that delves into sexual tolerance. With a lovely, soulful voice that has already drawn fond comparisons to George Michael, he strikes as the heart of the matter with his first single "Phobia," which offers the mantra, "We don't need it...we need love." The song, which shuffles along comfortably with funk-induced grooves. For "Debut" to have an impact, it will need to transcend the niche. "Yet Manchin certainly has the voice and melodies to make it happen."
In his current CD "Natural," this talented artist incorporates great Techno/R & B/Funk/Dance/Hip-Pop as well as World music sounds. Vocally, Paul puts out a post hypnotic message evoking trance-like inflections. The lyrics are filled with sexy, suggestive and repetitive stylings. The content of the lyrics are split into two different styles. One style is a bit more "risky" for the dance crowd, while the other is tamer-aimed at the radio crowd.
Very catchy arrangements keep the music fresh and exciting. Cross-mixing musical eras, flashing old R & B grooves, with new grooves, orchestrating a credible production. Brent Bodrug, producer, takes credit for the arranging as well as producing this CD.
In the past, Brent Bodrug has produced, arranged and written for artists such as Alanis Morissette, Oscar Peterson, Jacksoul, Son, and Aquanaut. It is a fantastic job. The dance-market likes an edge, not overly polished. This is all kind of rough and trendy. The overall sound caters to a dance club genre with a great variety of musical styles, keeping the dance vibe on maximum flow. Songs like "Orange", "Do-Ya" and "Electronica," are remarkably charged with funky R&B grooves geared toward radio market. The latter two songs are a marvel of emotion. They evoke a dream-like presence while being filled with electro-magnetic energy.
According to his biography, currently Paul Manchin's "Natural" is being shopped to labels across the continent, and overseas.

Splendid Paul Manchin "Natural" CD By J.S.
Natural bears only a surface resemblance to Jamiroquai's Travelling Without Moving. Like Jamiroquai, Paul Manchin makes funky R & B/soul-flavoured music that sounds a bit like the greats (Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Sly Stone, Prince). However, Manchin maintains more personal style than the more obviously-derived Jamiroquai; sometimes Jamiroquai sounds like they are trying to be Stevie Wonder, whereas Manchin always sounds like himself.
Furthermore, Manchin's sound is interesting because it doesn't sound quite as slickly produced as some R & B does. The music just doesn't have the background ear candy that some of the current young girls acts seem to have. If you have a keen ear, you'll detect some borrowed trance techniques, which give Natural's tracks a very mellow feel. Urban, stylish and clean in sound, I'd recommend Natural to anyone interested in hearing some new R & B that isn't dominated by a sixteen year old in a leather halter (sorry, guys).
Tribe Magazine Paul Manchin "Entity" CD By Josh Flower
Entity is a compilation of original pieces by Paul Manchin. The first few are vocal laden, dubby house tracks that range from slow crawlers to speedy techish numbers. Most have synthy undertones behind simple, groovy beat programming. A diverse display of productions including classic house, tech, a couple of break beat tracks and even a few ambient bits. Most include lyrics delivered straight over the beats - a li'l sassy at times, but just an opinion.
Exclaim Paul Manchin "Entity" CD By Romina Wendell
Ambitious, rhythm-driven, electro conscious and diverse sums up Paul Manchin's latest outing, Entity, which offers a somewhat eclectic mix of Manchin's talents. Make no mistake, this is Canadian electro-pop, but there is a slightly experimental edge to the whole recording and a playful feel to the diverse mix of tracks, which is complemented by a pared down production. Manchin even does a slow and thoughtful acoustic rendition of Neil Young's "Horse With No Name" and a great Iggy Pop imitation in "American." These are welcome surprises between the slightly too many frothy house numbers and metronome-style electronic beats. Entity works well as a Manchin sampler, which is interesting enough to pull you back for a few listens and keeps you on the lookout for his name.
Hidden Artist In The City Spotlight Paul Manchin "Exitus" CD By BriTGirl Productions
Each month we are going to attempt to feature an aspiring artisan in their chosen field who will have the opportunity to write a short work. In this manner, the artisan has an opportunity to explain their own words, as well as, being able to have the actual pieces of non-intrusive environment. This month's spotlight shines on Paul Manchin...
"Through my musical journey, I've had my home broken into while asleep, roaches and mice in my bedroom, my life threatened in New York City, cancer all around me, a political family, my heart broken many times and a car crash to boot. I still manage to keep 'goin' on' because music is my inspiration."
Have you known a boss who was unjust to you? A person at work that was a suckup to everyone? Someone who was wealthy and expected you to pay for everything? How about a person who dumped you and then wanted to come back? Or a snob who told you that you were not good enough? And then there's the problem about getting laid! How about a person who is inconsiderate and uses chemicals around you? Or the attraction to voluptuous people?
I have experienced these scenarios! And of course you want an EXITUS.
The music and lyrics represent these stories...and I don't apologize for who I am but I will forgive!
