"Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity." -- George W. Bush
Anything good! I listen to all styles of music, though I do have a penchant for pop-rock, country and folk-rock. But it might also be rock n roll, hip hop, reggae, movie scores, arabic traditional, or mexican corridos. Some specific artists include: The Refreshments, Gin Blossoms, George Strait, Stephen Ashbrook, Fountains of Wayne, Counting Crows, Beach Boys, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, Don Williams, Jeff Black, John Hiatt, Cranberries, Old 97s, Bob Dylan, Mat Kearney, Franz Liszt, James Horner, Idlewild, Everclear, Matchbox 20, REM, DMB, LFO, CCR, Hootie & the Blowfish, Goo Goo Dolls, Del Shannon, Blackhawk, The Mavericks, Paul Simon, Sister Hazel, Jimmy Buffett, Tom Petty, Keith Urban, Smashing Pumpkins, Kenny Chesney, Bob Marley, Beastie Boys, Bellamy Brothers, Tommy Roe, Matt Wertz, Tim McGraw, Elvis, Lucky Dube, Tommy James & the Shondells, Barenaked Ladies, and a lot more!
I enjoy most movies. I like dramas and comedies the most. The Good Shepherd, Wall Street, Seabiscuit, Munich, Vanilla Sky, The Cider House Rules, The Pianist, We Were Soldiers, Spanglish, Goodfellas, Hotel Rwanda, The Lost City, Chocolat, World Trade Center, Indiana Jones, Cruel Intentions, Hidalgo, The Manchurian Candidate, American Beauty, Back to the Future.
I watch a lot of cable news and political talk shows. Special Report on FNC! Sports: college football, U.S. Soccer, college basketball. Me encanta la telenovela Amor Comprado en Univision. Sitcoms: Frasier, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Still Standing, The Brady Bunch. I usually avoid serial dramas but I loved The Sopranos. BookTV is sometimes the only thing to watch on weekends. If it's Sunday, it's Meet the Press and Fox News Sunday. Cable reality shows are always interesting, but I will withhold naming specifics in order that I might preserve my reputation. Sometimes if I can't sleep late at night I watch those murder investigation documentaries (The First 48 on A&E is fascinating), and they kind of scare me.
The Case For Democracy by Natan Sharansky, Modern Times by Paul Johnson, The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright, John Adams by David McCullough, See No Evil by Robert Baer, One Soldier's Story by Bob Dole. Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides. F Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and any fiction classics. Political nonfiction such as Bob Woodward. The Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic.
Thanatopsis.
Poem of You, Whoever You Are.
There are so so many heroes in the world and heroes don't have to be perfect. Some of my heroes are: My mother, John McCain, George W Bush, Bob Dole, America's Founding Fathers, Abraham Lincoln, Coalition soldiers serving in Iraq & Afghanistan and all Iraqis who are working to build a free & democratic nation. And anyone who has lived up to ideals and maintained their faith through adversity.
