NEON

About Me

Neon is a well-established active space for contemporary art, sound, music and dance with a focus on Nordic, European and North American artists and collaborations. The artists we present are mainly involved in experimental or underground scenes, but we have also worked with well-established contemporary artists. Generally speaking, the artistic activities take the form of exhibitions, concerts, performances, workshops or seminars. Some of the artists we have worked with over the past few years include Robert Wilson, John Duncan, Alan Licht and Ion Birch has been parts of exhibitions, concerts with Phill Niblock, Greg Davis, Jason Forrest, Kim Gordon, Aki Onda, Sons of God, Kid 606 have been organized. Projects and group shows have for example examined the critical nature of interactive sound art and the role of record covers. Workshops in improvised music has produced noteworthy events such as the extraordinary Concert for 12 tractors by Sven-Åke Johansson.Neon has also produced records. So far four releases has been released by Jim O’Rourke, Christian Marclay, Erik Levander and Brösarpsbarnen&Jonas Jonasson, and occasionally other art editions such as printed shirts, limited edition books and prints have been made.Neon is situated in the old premises of the National Road Administration in Brösarp, in the very southeast of Sweden. A small village with about 600 inhabitants, but yet only an hour from Copenhagen/Malmö. Neon hosts exhibition rooms, a stage, a coffee bar, a shop, and an installation room in the silo next to the main building.Neon was started as a private initiative and has since been run on a non-profit base. Today the organization is a formal non-profit organisation. Neon has over the years recieved funds from Framtidens Kultur, Kultur Skåne, Sparbanken Syds Stiftelse, Musik i Syd and several others. For more info check www.neongallery.nu
