So my name is grum, Presently I can be found with six strings slung over my shoulder with Stagger Lee.(see friends below). which i dig. a lot. in fact, a very large lot. I love the guitar, play some mandolin & banjo too. occasionally bass. maybe a sprinkling of the ivories too. If it makes a sound I'll give it a go.Fine motorbikes & old cars make me smile, hot rods espescially. I got me a '78 Z650 that I got looking a lot older & meaner than they were meant to & a 750 magna that I haven't got the angle grinder to just yet. Engine oil & good ink are a mix meant to be.I write songs of love, loss, learning, yearning, broken hearts, moonlight drives & sunlit skies, songs soaked in absinthe hazes & planetary phases, Southern pentecostal darkness & dirt, low slung & burning truth from the heart.I played under my own moniker grum, or grum & the duende dogs; ("All that has dark sounds has duende, that mysterious power that everyone feels but no philosopher can explain.." (Garcia Lorca)) on & off for a few years, supporting the Archie Bronson outfit being one of the highlights, & played with some other artists too; I was a member of Autamata, touring & recording & doing TV type stuff & I had the great pleasure of touring with Bic Runga in 2004, along with two of the marvellous Devastations.
Filled in for two gigs with my favourite rock n' roll heroes the Things in 2005. The wonderful chanteuse Michelle Brennan, an on/off sideline project with Mick Pyro & Asha, Cathy Davey, a gorgeous filmscore for the Rob Delaney independant great "runners dial zero" with Warren Ahern of Kaplin, (also a duende dog), and some more I'll get around to in time.Oh yeah I was a sound engineer for a long time too, taking a break from that at the mo, did mostly live stuff; Hawksley workman, polysics, the a.m., the Things, the mighty Stef (played musical mayhem with him too supporting republic of loose), Preston Reed, Dylan Walshe, Hi-rise, Joey Ramone (yes), the republic of loose, fun lovin criminals, alabama 3, & loads of others I havent thought about for a while.I respect the art of good song, true people, straight talkers. As above, so below. No Pussy Blues
