About Me

1. i graduate in spring 08. when i do, i'm leaving jacksonville.
2. i think that despite the fact that none of us were hugged as often as we should have been as children, we are destined for great things in love.
3. i love music. i hate the music business.
4. i have a lovely moleskine journal that i write in quite frequently, and when i die i want my close friends to go through it.
5. i used to believe what my transcript said about me. i don't anymore.
6. i have started an online writing project. please join in.
7. i'm pretty sure Jesus Christ is horribly misrepresented by the institution of organized religion called christianity. he doesn't create social norms or boundaries. he shatters them.
8. i thrive in nontraditional environments.
9. i love my melbourne kids, and i hate that they're in melbourne when i'm not.
10. i like to jog. particularly in the woods.
11. favorite sounds include: a well-executed gear shift, a well-tuned and properly played acoustic guitar, the crunching sound of my lovely les paul, my vr6, and truth spoken aloud.
12. miscellaneous other favorites include: the smell of vanilla, the feel of a surfboard, the overflow of cool waves, cleaning dryer lint drawers, hand-washing my car in detail, changing things for the better, and writing something i'd be willing to show someone else.
13. i write because i feel like a part of me will die if words do not find their place in eternity.
14. i crave honesty yet squirm at the consequences of Truth.
15. when i meet mean, rude, or discontent people i wonder what went so wrong with their day/childhood/lives to make them completely disregard the effects of poor social interactions.
16. I don’t claim Jesus of Nazareth because I think it makes me better than you on any falsely-determined level.
17. don't let my employment fool you; stay away from starbucks. keep your money and skip the calories.
18. i write songs.
19. i love going to shows, and every small band i love that makes it big is a bittersweet conclusion to an intimate romance.
20. burning cd's is illegal unless you have the artist's permission.
21. i will not play it safe.
22. i don't care what you drive, my car's better.
23. i paint.
24. i learn best by diving in and ironing out wrinkles as i go.
25. i'm learning piano, finally.
26. i hate ice. when i was 5, i choked on a piece of ice and my grandpa had to give me the heimlich. if you ever make me a drink, please don't include ice.
27. i love camping. real camping.
28. i live in a better apartment than you do. come visit.
29. God is making a few things a little clearer and i am getting close to certainty that my future involves music.
30. faith requires listening.
31. give me a sea doo and i will turn one-eighties.
32. i am extrordinarily self-righteous about music and probably won't listen to anything you suggest. be aware of that. don't suggest stupid things.
33. we do not come boldly. we are cowards.
34. too often, i hope for change rather than expect it; that in itself is hopeless.
35. i have this horrible habit of thinking my thoughts are superior to the majority of the world's population. that makes me very judgmental. not to mention typically wrong.
36. i believe the idea of wearing your "sunday best" to church was satan's idea. i wear to God on sunday morning what i wear sunday afternoon through saturday night. and he loves me just the same, fortunately.
37. grace is much easier to write about than to give, take or walk in.
38. i care nothing for your denominations. please see item number 7.
39. i love writing letters.
40. i am moving to kansas city in july 2008 for a six-month internship at the international house of prayer-kansas city.
41. i am tremendously bothered by evangelicals who apparently haven't read john 3:17.
42. i love sharpies.
43. recently i have digressed into often failing at popping popcorn without burning it, and sharpening pencils.
44. i used to think i needed to read at least a couple of chapters of the Bible at a time to think i had any significant investment; i've learned sometimes there is tremendous value in lingering on just a few words.
If you want to find where Jesus is, you’ll find Him close to the poorest of the poor, the suffering, the terrorized people.

Heading Home

I say often that grace is not in our economy as mankind; we judge according to condition, with or without righteous sight. An obvious example would be something along the lines of the innocent falling...

Colossians 3, 2008, and the highs and lows of it all.

It's probably too easy to assume that I don't know the end; too early to tell if this relationship will work or crash and burn. Too soon to see what I need to be prepared, too far away from land to kn...

Antique Cars and Ice Cream Sandwiches [on being a refuge].

Give it a few decades, and I'll probably resemble my dad and grandfather in the ways they reminisce about the cars they had when they were my age. But if I have my way, my Jetta will last forever if i...

Its just simple economics, really.

I have made a friend recently without knowing it or trying so much. Surprising, I know. To be completely honest, I was just doing my job. I was handing coffee out of the window with a smile on my face...

I mop the floor.

For whatever reason, a few people I work with don't like to sweep. Or mop. If they don't like to sweep, they like to mop. If they don't like to mop, they definitely don't like to sweep. I don't know w...
