My musical tastses are rather eclectic.
Most country incites me to great violence, but the work of some inviduals amuses me.
Rap "music" is generally nothing of the sort. It is a genre devoted to conformity. Those who sprout the form to new heights may catch my attention from time to time.
Artists of particular meaning to me:
B.B. King
Eisley
Garbage
Ozzy Osbourne
Throwing Muses
The White Stripes
Films of particular merit:
Star Wars OT (Han Shot First!)
Memento
Interview with the Vampire
Shadow of a Doubt
I enjoy films that make me think-- not just about them but about reality, society, or myself. "Suspense" films generally do nothing of the sort. I am not so easily surprised and am therefore unimpressed with films that do their best to one-up me. Horror can, at times, be entertaining, but comedy is probably my favorite genre. I truly enjoy films that blend. Comedy, drama, horror, action-- these are all components of life so why are they not equally represented? Genres are limiting.
Television has lost its hold on me. I mostly watch the movie stations now. Still, there are a few programs that will always mean a lot to me:
Buffy (Underappreciated)
Angel (Unfairly Compared)
Family Guy (Never fails to amuse)
Firefly (Unjustly judged)
Carnivale (Likewise)
Robot Chicken (Short but sweet)
Venture Bros. (Genius)
Star Trek (all but Enterprise)
Monty Python's Flying Circus (Seminal)
I have read too many terrible ones and not enough wonderful ones.
Doctor Faustus (Christopher Marlowe) Technically a play...
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Douglas Adams)
Book of the New Sun (Gene Wolfe)
Neuromancer (William Gibson)
Legend (David Gemmel)
Helm (Steven Gould)
American Gods (Neil Gaiman)
Slackjaw (David Knipfel)
To put another on a pedestal only invites disappointment.
