Reviews and Press

"...Small wonder then, that when England-raised Joe Hurley, vocalist for the Celt-punk group Rogue's March, and American drummer (and unreconstructured power-popper) Ed Rogers decided to pay tribute to the late night artist with a two-night celebration of his music at Fez, their phones began ringing off the hook with performers lining up to take part..." NEW YORK TIMES Fri Oct 3rd, 1997 POP AND JAZZ GUIDE
" Marc Bolan's songs for TRex were the epitome of British glam-rock, with boisterous guitar riffs and fey, intelligent lyrics about power and pleasure. His admirers include many leading figures from New York Rock of the last two decades, who are gathering this weekend at Fez for two nights of tribute. Among them are Joey Ramone, Clem Burke...." - Jon Pareles

20th Century Boy: Marc Bolan and T.Rex
".....lots and lots of musicians-local and otherwise-are gathering to celebrate the tres erratic work of Marc Bolan, the hippie turned glam icon who was a ray-gun-toting, super-fey rock star before Bowie took it to whole new leves of pomp and circusness.
In the States, Bolan might be considered a one-hit wonder: the sleazy bubblegum anthem "Bang A Gong" was his lone breakthrough. But in Britain, he was the biggest thing since the Beatles--melding, if not quashing, dippy hippiedom with high-octane guitar riffs and rock-god swagger. He was egged on by Tony Visconti, whose knack for streamlining metallic guitar noise was later enlisted by Bowie.
Bolan was the ultimate teen idol, but unlike your every-era David Cassidy, teens never really got over him. Although Bolan's sales slipped off and his band, T.Rex, never re-established its superstar status after the mid-70s, his continuing influence is undeniable" - Smith Galtney

"New York's Fez Club played host to a Marc Bolan/T.REX tribute show on Oct 3-5. The shows, which featured appearances by Patti Rothberg, Lloyd Cole, Gary Lucas, Richard Barone, Television's Richard Lloyd, T.Rex/Bowie producer Tony Visconti and others, marked what would have been Bolan's 50th birthday and the 20th anniversary of his death. The shows , put together by New York musician Joe Hurley, picked up where an annual series of Hurley-led T.Rex Tributes left off in 1993...
