Ask anyone to name one of the most powerful performers in the soca arena, and the name Mikey would inevitably top the list. Truly a force to be reckoned with, this Bajan soca hurricane explodes onto the stage, with a barrage of musical talents, from singing and songwriting to dancing.
His introduction to singing began when he was seven years old, when he joined the Wesley Hall Oratorical Society, where he remained until he was age 15.  In his teenage years, he sang bass in two harmony groups, D’Guyz and Xtacy, and later joined the popular Grass Skirt Posse, as a dancer, for five years. Â
The year 2004 was an unforgettable year for Mikey, who recorded his first soca tune, entitled, “Come Together,†which unmistakably dominated the airwaves, and earned him the second position in the annual Party Monarch competition, held by the National Cultural Foundation. The colossal hit then went on to claim the coveted Road March title of the season, and became the unofficial anthem of Barbadians everywhere.Â
In 2005, Mikey made four contributions to the season, with “Show Me Now,†“Hold One,†(with cousin and artiste, Lorenzo) “Don’t Hold Me Back,†and “Dat Time Again,†which sailed through to the Party Monarch Finals and placed ninth in the competition, and third in the Starcom Network’s “People’s Monarch†contest. The electrifying performer decided make yet another step and became one of the lead singers of soca band, Electrik, which- with great help from Mikey’s commanding stage presence- rapidly became one of the leading bands in Barbados; omnipresent throughout the Crop Over seasons 2005-2006.Â
Mikey rallied back like thunder onto the festival scene of 2006, releasing a bombshell of a raggasoca, entitled, “Belong To We,†followed by up tempo hits “Clear,†and “Road March Song†(with Andy “Blood†Armstrong) all blazing relentlessly on the airwaves. As a member of the cast of the Headliners calypso tent, Mikey reminded the public of his versatility and delivered his first social commentary, “Soca†in 2006.Â
In early 2007, after his evolution from Elektrik, Mikey showcased his versatility yet again, by joining all-male harmony group, G-Syndicate- while also releasing four thunderbolts for Crop Over: the racehorse of a tune, “My Time,†the popular raggasoca track -“C.L.A.P†(with Lorenzo), “Moreâ€- the ‘perfect for any jump-up, jam session’ tune, and the ultimate energy track “Bashment Bacchanal†by Khiomal Nurse of Krosfyah. As a solo artiste, Mikey has made musical strides throughout New York, Trinidad, Canada, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Miami, and St. Lucia. With the stage presence of a giant, Mikey is undeniably a powerhouse of an artiste, whose talent knows no limits.
