The perfect blend of the many styles of the Caribbean, Reggae, Spouge, and Soca, with a dash of Hip-hop and Jazz is the only way one can describe the entity that is G-Syndicate. Native to the beautiful island of Barbados, they are inspired by leading a’cappella group Take 6 and others like Naturally 7 and The Real Group, and are driven to spread God’s word the only way they know how, through song. Performing at various churches, hotels, and concerts throughout the island, thrilling audiences with their smooth harmonies and upbeat rhythms, G-Syndicate is determined to take their Ministry to the world. The group is able to create a sound that will make you come to appreciate and enjoy the a' cappella genre more. Why G-Syndicate? The 'G' simply stands for "God's" while a syndicate is a group of persons who come together to carry out a particular task. So, in essence, G-Syndicate is a group of young men who have come together to carry out God's work through the ministry of song. It is no surprise that G-Syndicate is able to take almost any song and meld it to the a’cappella styling they love to sing via a process they call "SYNDICATIONâ€, and they can also mimic musical instruments using "VOCAL INSTRUMENTATIONâ€. Not only are they able to take cover songs and make them their own, but they are also talented writers and arrangers, and each member in the group contributes, in some way, to the lyrical and musical arrangement of all of their original compositions. G-Syndicate is: - Derek Marshall – First Tenor, founder, writer, arranger, musical director and leader of the group. Brett Linton – Second Tenor, Percussionist, writer, choreographer and second-in-command. Akyem Barrow – First Tenor, Percussionist, writer, arranger and choreographer. Michael Mercer – Baritone, writer and choreographer. Taurean Knight – Second Tenor and writer; Antonio Edwards – Bass and arranger. Members have come and gone, but G-Syndicate has finally found the right blend of voices as well as personalities to make what they produce an experience you will never forget. G-Syndicate’s achievements to date have been, in 2006 a Bronze Medal at the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) with an original song called "Father I Need You" written and arranged by Derek Marshall and in 2007 a Silver Medal using a G-Syndicate arrangement for the traditional song "As the Deer Pants". They also received two Flame Award nominations in 2007 for Vocal Group of the Year and Best New Group and in 2008 a second nomination for Vocal Group of the Year.
