Eating Disorder Awareness

To raise awareness about eating disorders and acknowledge that eating disorders do not descriminate

About Me

We are all young people who have experienced an eating disorder ourselves or have had a family member or friend experience an eating disorder. We want to raise awareness about eating disorders and express a desire for change - more funding, more research and more treatment options for those suffering.
We are not here to promote an eating disorder as a lifestyle choice. We are not counsellors. We are not doctors or nurses and do not offer medical advice.
An Eating Disorder is a horrible and debilitating illness. Often lonely and isolting, it causes both psychological and physical side effects.
There are four main types of eating disorder; anorexia, bulimia, EDNOS and compuslive overeating. All these illnesses can be fatal (eating disorders have the highest fatality rate of any psychiatric illness) and all cause significant distress and dysfunction to the person experiencing the illness.
Eating Disorder Awareness is here to raise awareness of eating disorders - to promote these 5 facts:
1) An eating disorder is not a lifestyle choice, or a choice at all.
2) There needs to be more awareness and public acceptance of eating disorders.
3) There needs to be more funding and research put towards eating disorders and treatment.
4) An eating disorder is no one's 'fault'
5) People with eating disorders deserve understanding, compassion and kindness.
You can email us at [email protected] and we endevor to reply to any emails as quickly as possible. If you email, we will try to give you support/help or direct you to places in your area that may be able to help. We make no promises, and can only reply as fast as we can.
We are not counsellors - just people who are in recovery, recovered and friends of those who have experienced eating disorders.
