GET ACTIVE FOR MENTAL HEALTH'S FEATURED FACT!
Fact #18:ARAFMI (Association of Relatives And Friends of the Mentally Ill) is a support group for carers and families affected by mental illness. This is an important service because often carers need a break every now and then.
Get Active 4 Mental Health (GA4MH) is a campaign led by sufferers of mental illness. Our personal experiences with mental illnesses have fueled a desire for heralding mental health from the roof-tops! Well…not exactly…But it has led us to start this group. We aim to decrease stigma & increase awareness about mental health. We plan to do this via a series of interviews in a variety of mediums, as well as pointing a helping hand in the direction of some useful websites.
So sit back, relax & keep your mind wide open.
Our founding team members are Charlotte, Ella and Tilly. We are available to answer any questions you may have via our email address: [email protected] . We also have an ever-growing team of young, eager people who wish to help us with this campaign. So far we already have three new team member - Bessie, Joan & Emily!
If you are interested in becoming a team member, drop us an email. Also if you have a story about your own mental health experience and/or an experience which may help other's (you can remain anonymous!), to be included on the website - drop us an email as well! Our email address again (in case you have forgotten) is [email protected] . Hope to hear from you soon!!!
Disclaimer: We are a personal experiences based website. We aim to share experiences and improve awareness about mental health. We are NOT professionals, but we can point you in the right direction if you need some help :)

Tilly -
Hi, I’m Tilly! I’m passionate about mental health, reading & bioethics! I am currently studying pharmacy at university, having graduated from high school in 2006. I aim to become a child & adolescent psychiatrist (after many years of study!). My hobbies include reading, playing music (piano & violin), singing, composing, messing around on the internet & sleeping!!! I LOVE musical theatre & drive all my friends crazy by singing all the time! I will die if I don’t see ‘Wicked’ when it comes to Oz! I have been diagnosed with many things over the years, with my current dx being: Schizoaffective disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & Generalised Anxiety Disorder. It’s fun being me! *not* But I do like to laugh & joke around – I always make the best of a situation (unless I am depressed, in which case, shoot me)
Bye!!!

Ella -
Hey I'm Ella.
I'm 18 and 2008 will be my first year of uni. I think everyone can make a difference in someone elses life. I like travelling and meeting new people. I like talking, probably too much, and I also love driving. Having a personal experience with mental health issues has made me stronger, and makes me want to help others going through their own tough times. Life can be a bit of a rollercoaster but im happy to be here to experience it!

Charlotte -
Hello! I'm Charlotte and I'm 18 years old! I completed year 12 in 2008 and am so excited for new and exciting things this year! I really enjoy maths and science (especially Chemistry - Much to Tilly's dislike) and I absolutely adore animals of all kinds, except for spiders! I have the best puppy dog in the world who I love to death!
In my spare time, I love to read, play with my puppy and muck around on the internet - I am also very passsionate about many things including homelessness, global warming issues and of course mental health! I am taking 6 months off so I can do some volunteer work. When I eventually go to uni, I hope to study science and hopefully eventually end up becoming a pediatrician. :)
I have been diagnosed with moderate-severe depression, some anxiety & OCD. I'm working on it though.
Anyway, keep smiling!!! :D

Our EVER growing team
Bessie -
Hi my name’s Bessie and I’m the latest recruit for GA4MH! I’m just finishing off my last year at high school, and hope to study social work. I am part of the YBBlue crew, and also a member of other support websites! I enjoy simple things like being with the people I love, and appreciating beauty in all its shapes and forms. I have a gorgeous 1 year old puppy!
I have been through some very difficult times, with severe mental health problems and emotional crisis. I’ve had OCD all my life and in my early teens I became very depressed and turned to self harm, drug abuse, and other self-destructive behaviours. Over time and with lots of help I have learnt better ways to manage and accepted that suicide is not the only way out!

Joan -
Hello there! My name is Joan and I’m 15, in grade nine and am one of the new members of ga4mh! I lead a fairly average life that was recently made much more complicated with the arrival of depression. At this moment I have clinical moderate/severe depression and a suspected anxiety disorder, but am doing my very best to change that. I have a loving family that has also had to deal with mental illness, not just from me, which has made my passion for supporting and raising awareness for people with mental illness that much stronger. I also know a whole heap of my friends who are struggling, but don’t get help. I aim to change that and not just for them, but for anyone who has ever experienced the hell that is mental illness.
But anyway, enough about my “mission” as I am calling it, heres some info bout me! I adore animals and am also very passionate about animals rights and have turned vegetarian for the cause. I have many family pets, too many to mention! And love spending time with them. Its great therapy too! I love music, as everyone does, but my friends reckon I’m obsessed…
So there you have it! That’s a brief rundown of why I’m here and who I am.
Thanking you for your time!

Emily
G'day G'day I'm Emily and I'm now officially 18!! Woot woot. My life has been one big rollarcoaster but I am now happy to say that I have started to come out on top! I plan on studying psychology and then entering the police force :) My philosophy in life is "what lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us". I have to admit that I have an extremly unhealthy obsession to the character HOUSE, and am hugely passionate about acting, debating and music. Over the last couple of years my life has consisted of hospital admissions, appointments, tests and medication but I have now come to the conclusion that no illness is going to define what I can and cannot do. The one thing that I hate and try never to do is judge, I believe that everyone is unique and special in their own way and has the ability to do whatever they set their mind to. So keep on trucking people's coz you never know where it will take you!! xox
