Being an accomplished pianist, guitarists, studio engineer and lyricists, he was a leading member of The Innocent Kru when it topped local charts with hits like Turn It Up, Not Guilty, Wogga Wogga and Impossible Train.
Hype!!! started to learn music when he was growing up in the Red Hills Road area with his mother, two brothers and father, who was hell-bent on making a musician out of his son. Ainsley Morris Snr., a noted musician, whose musical highs include the 1982 hit On My Mind, gently nudged his son in a musical direction.
At age five, Junior was learning to play the guitar. He took piano lessons from the celebrated Jamaican pianist, Ms. Foster Davis -getting to Grade 6 in Classical Harmonic. Mr. Morris Snr. also enlisted the services of opera singer and vocal coach Patricia Gooden with the hopes of Junior following in his footsteps.
However, Benzly Hype!!! choose to make a career as a Dancehall Artist! Hype!!! A graduate of Calabar High School and West Avenue Institute was an exemplary student in spite of his credence as the lunchtime poet, deejay and rapper writing songs about everything, including his teachers (one of which, nearly got him expelled, lucky the principal found it quite funny and merely gave him a suspension ).
At home, he and his friends Scatta (now producer for Kings and Kings Records), Gandy (now known as Ras Kasa, music video director) and Cousin Macka Head of Innocent Kru would spend hours laying tracks on Juniors basic recording system.
His affinity for music was noticed by the late Ricky Villa of LA Benz sound system who invited him to start working as a box boy (equipment crew member).This proved instrumental in his career building as he rose up the ranks to selector and then deejay.
Simultaneously, Hype!!! was also honing his engineering and writing skills at Celestial Sounds recording studio, recording sessions and writing songs for the likes of Beenie Man, Frisco Kid, Merciless, and Capt. Barkey. Showcasing his flexibility by penning different kinds of pieces for different audiences, Hype!!! has developed a dramatic, and sometimes slightly-comical style in recent years.
After High School, his passion for the genre got even stronger. Junior abandoned studies in Computer Science at the University Of The West Indies and classical music at the Edna Manley School of Visual Arts, following his heart to the Benz corner in Duhaney Park. Benzly fine tuned his Dancehall craft while opening shows for Spragga Benz alongside other members of the Benzspeculous Crew.
A protégé of Sly Dunbar of legendary production duo, Sly and Robbie, he also learned to build rhythms and lay musical tracks. His wide-ranging musical skill is evident in his solo projects and the response has been encouraging. Local womens advocacy group, Womens Media Watch has formally endorsed his recording of Jasmin' Jones - a song about male female relationships.
Now Hype!!! Fresh off, shooting the pilot for a upcoming sitcom on his life in the music biz “Me An Mi Kru†and doing some serious work with the Dancehall kings Steelie & Clevie is on the verge off the Becoming the ultimate Instrument in his craft.
Today Benzly Hype!!! is a far way from his early days on the Benz corner, having proven himself as an energetic and entertaining performer both as a member of the Innocent Kru and as a solo act. With number one singles under his belt in Japan, Sweden, and Switzerland as a member of the Innocent Kru, Hype!!! is on the verge of releasing his much anticipated solo album.
