my papa-the illegitmate son of a mail order bride and her secret lover--the richest family in bridgeport, connecticut fell in love with him and tried to adopt him when he was a boy in the orphanage--because he was smart, positive, and found joy in such a sad life. he rode the rails across the country, was a mason's apprentice, served in the fourth armored division in europe during the final years of WWII, recieved a purple heart--came home to raise 2 children, acted on his political convictions, volunteered his time working with veterens at the VA hospital, told the most amazing stories--truly loved the comraderie of men--he called his granddaughter petunia, and died before she ever had a chance to disappoint him.
