Candy Harlots had a massive cult following and had some very successful releases achieving the status of being the fastest selling independent band in Australian history, we supported THE CULT, D-A-D, CHEAP TRICK, ANGELS, THE SUNNYBOYS, KINGS OF THE SUN, MASTERS APPRENTICES and THE DIVYNALS. We jammed a Troggs cover with RACHEL BOLAND (SKID ROW) at a MOTLEY CRUE after show party, and man that was a blast. My releases with Harlots were:

I have done and still do session or fill in jobs, live and studio with different bands and other projects, some of my personal projects tunes are featured here on Solo Projects and Solo Projects 2 . I was thinking about why some bands that are influenced by 80's metal/rock bands often tend to sound like cheap rip offs of there admired bands. I have come to a stream of thought about this. As the only song writer in my band, when I come up with a strong idea, I'm inspired or propelled with ideas for the lyrics, music and vision of direction, like what you can see out a windscreen in a car heading to a new place you've never been to with a roughly hand drawn map. I more often than not arrange the tune prior to working the tune with the band, and my band give their full support to try different things that invariably are my flavor rather than a riff that i write with everyone else forcing ideas according to that. Often songs are stronger when written as a song with an inspired vision (much like painting a picture from the mind) on my own or with another like minded writer I think its got a better chance of being a good song. I love to write with other writers especially an experienced or skilled writer. Collaboration is awesome if directions are alike enough. I more often then not find writing with someone who isn't a talented or skilled writer in my vain of writing tiresome and frustrating unless there is a real natural talent to unravel...
Extreme diversity is a maybe not a good thing i have written stuff that is more suited to The Cure or U2 and even other stuff more like Pantera to Dream Theater but how could this diversity work in a hard rock band? i don't think it could... I had a band in the 90's(Shock Therapy) with its sole purpose being extreme diversity in styles from The Cure, Bad Company, Alice in Chains,Prince to U2 to NIN to Overkill and then even Queensryche each style a different song and people didn't get it.. it died in the ass.. so well i have so many unexplored areas of music in the band sense cause my favorite music genear is Kick Ass Finger Pointing Righteous Rock...
