About Me

Upcoming designer Ryan Winegan is a woman who is passionate about creative design in jewelry and apparel. "Fashion is an art," explains Ryan, "and I love to include inspirations from life, nature, music and anything else that comes to mind in my work."Ryan began designing clothes by sketching her ideas on paper when she was in elementary school. Her sewing skills and technical training about clothing construction developed while attending college at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, also known as Virginia Tech. She is currently completing her last semester of school and will be graduating with Bachelor of Science degrees in Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management (concentrations: Apparel Design and Merchandising Management), a Business Minor, and a Leadership Minor.Ryan is also a self-taught jewelry designer who began jewelry making in the summer of 2004 during her free time while working as a summer camp instructor. 10 years of retail experience, recognition as a Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities honoree (2008), induction into the Phi Upsilon Omicron National Honor Society in Family and Consumer Sciences, and graduation from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (Class of 2007) are some of the accomplishments Ryan has achieved thus far.Her designs have been featured in the Virginia Tech Fashion Merchandising and Design Society's "A Closer Look" (2007) spring fashion show and will also be included in the organization's upcoming "Haute of the Runway" spring 2008 fashion show. "I believe that hard work, determination, honesty, treating people with respect, faith, and dedication are the key to achieving success," explains Ryan. "I encourage everyone to live life to the fullest and use your skills & talents to make a positive contribution in whatever activity you do. I look forward to putting my creativity to use and designing products that can help women feel more confident about themselves, stylish, and beautiful in their own special way!"

My Interests

An online store carrying Ryan's art work and jewelry is being developed. Its launch date is expected in 2008. Stay tuned for updates!

I'd like to meet:

"With my designs, I enjoy experimenting with colors, different textures and style variations, and anything that inspires me. Experimenting with different things allows my jewlery to be unique, one-of-a-kind and a treasure to the individual who owns it. This also applies to my clothing designs. I focus on creating women's apparel and the combination of solid colors with printed fabrics is common in my designs." ~ RyanA. RYAN'S JEWELRYRyan hand-makes her jewelry using beads including semi-precious stones, glass beads, cat-eye beads, metallic beads, and several other types as well. She makes necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings that are sold individually or as a set. Since each jewelry piece is hand-made, no two pieces are exactly alike. Depending on the design, Ryan's jewelry is available in styles that are gold-plated, silver-plated, gold-tone or silver-tone.B. RYAN'S APPARELRyan's apparel work involves developing concept boards as a source of inspiration for her designs, sketching her ideas on paper, developing technical specifications for her designs, patternmakeing, and constructing the actual garment. Themes she has used as inspiration for concept boards includes space, bird feathers, nature ('Safari'), lamps, and geometric shapes to name a few."Personally I find that in order to get ideas to design something unusual,' explains Ryan, " I need to find inspiration in unusual things...such as lamps for example. How can I be inspired by lamps? The different shapes and sizes, color combinations, and textures from the lamp shade are things that can help generate ideas to 'Think Outside the Box.'"C. OTHER DESIGNSIn conjunction to clothing, Ryan has also made pillowcases, floral arrangements, purses, and a picture collection consisting of drawings she created using color pencils and/or markers.

RYAN'S QUOTE OF THE MONTH:“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~ Steve Jobs
