I watched so much television growing up that I don't need to now. I still enjoy ER, Futurama, Kids in the Hall, Law and Order, M*A*S*H and Saturday Night Live. And when I can see it, American Chopper, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Cheers, China Beach, Home Movies, Monster Garage, News Radio, classic Ren and Stimpy, St. Elsewhere, Twilight Zone, The State and Viva Variety.
The Giving Tree, The Velveteen Rabbit, To Kill a Mockingbird, and most of Chuck Klosterman's (THANKS Gina!) and Michael Crichton's works. Also books written by comedians -- Scott Adams, Tim Allen, Erma Bombeck, Al Franken, Dennis Miller, Paul Reiser, etc.
Here's a list of my favorite comedians. They might not be considered "heroes" but their wit frees me from otherwise sad situations -- Lewis Black, A. Whitney Brown, George Carlin, Dana Carvey, Nora Dunn, Tina Fey, Al Franken, Jim Gaffigan, Janeane Garofalo, Phil Hartman, Jake Johannsen, Denis Leary, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Larry Miller, Mike Myers, Amy Poehler, Kevin Pollack, Paula Poundstone, David Spade, Steven Wright, and anyone else who's brought a smile to my face.
