I started my musical life in the 80s as songwriter, keyboard player and vocalist releasing original albums of synth based pop music. In the 90s I wrote New Age, World and Celtic influenced music and over the past 4 to 5 years I have composed essentially traditional romantic classical music. When I say ‘I’, I mean ‘Nick Davis’. Earl Cole is my alter ego – a stage name.
So how did I end up singing standards? The answer is quite simple – I just love the genre. When I was growing up I was never really exposed to the music of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole or the great female vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald. It was not until my thirties that my interest in jazz, swing and lounge music was aroused. I soon realised that my voice was better suited to singing standards than my own original music. Earl Cole was born and his career has run in parallel with that of Nick Davis who, ironically, now only composes instrumental music.
Shortly before the passing of Frank Sinatra in 1998, I put together a Sinatra tribute show called 'New York, New York'. I was adding the finishing touches when 'Old Blue Eyes' passed away. Needless to say that the timing could not have been better! I started my crooning career performing dinner shows at a small café in suburban Perth. Since that modest beginning almost 10 years ago I have performed at many events and functions in Western Australia and interstate.
Although I am probably best known for performing the hits of Sinatra, my repertoire is extensive and I cover music made famous by many of the great 20th century crooners including Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Bobby Darin. My repertoire also includes songs performed by more recent artists such as Michael Buble & Harrry Connick Jnr.
With well over 200 songs to choose from I can create a show for almost any occasion. From floor shows to background music, I can customise my song selection and performance style to suit every client's needs. I now also offer a DJ style service to compliment/add to my live performances.
The sample tracks on this page are of my 'natural' singing voice. I can also mimic the vocal sylings of the likes of Sinatra, Dean Martin and Bobby Darin.
